The hype for this show increased with each episode, as the fans of this spin-off show were already interested in the series thanks to its connection to the To All the Boys film series, which marks this the first Netflix television series to be spun-off from a Netflix original film!
The fanfare surrounding this show since its release has been unreal, due to which we can understand why the fans are eagerly awaiting the return of their favorite series created by Jenny Han. Moreover, over the last few months, we have noticed that many questions, with one in particular on everyone’s mind, “Is XO, Kitty Season 2 canceled?” have been spreading wildfire all over the web, with many unanswered queries lurking behind the minds of the fandom, due to which these queries need to be addressed as soon as possible in order to avoid more rumors being spread all over social media.
So, if you want this raging question to be answered, then we can assure you that there is nothing to be worried about in the future. Yes! You heard it right: the beloved romantic series is in safe hands, as we are certain that Netflix won’t back down this easily by scrapping such a popular show from one of its well-known franchises. Much to everyone’s delight, the show was officially renewed for a second season back in June 2023!
The early renewal was not a major surprise as it has a high viewership on Netflix in more than 50 countries, which is quite a milestone for a series with just one season! As a result, if you want to learn more about all the latest details about the highly anticipated second season, then you have reached the right place to know it all. To curb all your worries, we have listed everything we know so far about XO, Kitty Season 2.
XO, Kitty Season 2 Expected Release Date: When will it premiere on Netflix?
Let’s get straight to the point: As of writing this, we can assure you that the anticipated premiere date for XO: Kitty Season 2 has not been confirmed by the network yet. As we know, it is way too early for the network to release such crucial information, especially when the filming hasn’t even begun for the new season due to the ongoing 2023 Writers Guild of America strike along with the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which has put a halt on the majority of writers room until a resolution is made in favor of the writer’s and actor’s compensation.
The release of the show will be delayed further if the strikes gain more momentum and don’t reach a resolution within the next few weeks. Moreover, we have observed the gap between seasons for many original Netflix series usually tends to be roughly a year, which is typical for a show of this caliber to wrap up its meticulous production on schedule. Hence, as per our guess, if the production does begin sometime later this year, then we can assume that the new episodes might come back around mid-2024 or even 2025!
In addition to this, the change in the release window depends on the duration of the ongoing dual strikes, as they will directly impact the screen for the three production stages because the creators surely want to deliver a good show. So, these factors make one thing pretty much clear: there is no way the second season will be premiering on Netflix anytime soon, let alone in the remaining months of 2023. While you wait for more updates, check out the renewal announcement post as shared on Netflix’s official Twitter handle, quote, “pssst… XO, Kitty has been renewed for Season 2!!! Pass it on.”

XO, Kitty Season 2 Plot: What can the fans expect to see in the new season?
If you have streamed the first season, then you’ll know that in the series, Kitty Song Covey thinks she knows everything there is to know about love. She’ll soon realize that relationships are a lot more complicated when it’s your own heart on the line. The official synopsis states, “Kitty Covey, who believes she is extremely knowledgeable on love, moves halfway across the world, aiming to reconnect with her long-distance boyfriend. She finds, however, that a relationship is much more complex when it is your own feelings of love at risk.”
Even though not much has been revealed about the second season, it is pretty evident that season one was just the beginning. As Anna Cathcart also told Netflix Tudum ahead of XO, Kitty Season 1, her character still has a lot of life to explore. Despite Kitty’s conviction that her long-distance lover, Dae (Minyeong Choi), is her everlasting companion, her experiences at KISS cause her to reevaluate her entire perspective. Over the course of Season 1, Kitty learns that love may blossom in a variety of unexpected ways and that “things are not always so simple,” as Cathcart put it.
“By the end, she’s like, ‘I literally have no idea about anything. I am figuring it out. There are so many new people now that is a possibility,'” Cathcart said. “To see her world expand is a huge, huge difference and will be a really fun thing to follow.” Moreover, Co-showrunner Jenny Han also stated, “What was exciting about Kitty’s story [is] that it shows you can really explore different people for different times of your life.” Han continued. “It means that at that moment in your life, they were that love. And then maybe it enables you to keep going.”
Warning: The following passage contains major spoilers!
We are certain that the season will pick up the plot from the final episode, “OTP,“ of the first season, in which the viewers got to see that Kitty tells Dae the other person she has feelings for is Yuri, making him feel hurt and leave. Jina tells Lee that Alex is his son and that she didn’t tell him so he wouldn’t change his goals and retain him. The final results are shared, and Kitty passes all her classes but is expelled when it is found she has been living in the boy’s dorm. Kitty gives Jina music she downloaded, believing it was for her mom.
Eventually, Jina hands her a letter that Eve wrote to her but never answered. Florian gets the best results, meaning he stays at school but jeopardizes Dae’s scholarship as he needs to be the best in order to keep it, placing Q in a hard position. Kitty breaks up with Dae, telling him he would be the first boy she has ever loved, and he tells her he has loved her too. Later in the episode, Yuri is at the airport waiting for Juliana, and Kitty is about to tell her how she feels when Juliana appears, and she leaves. Yuri calls her mother and tells her it’s a mistake to expel Kitty. Kitty reads the letter on the plane and finds out her mother’s first love was someone called Simon.
Min Ho is seated next to her, traveling to see his mom in LA, and confesses his feelings to her, leaving her dumbfounded. To get more context about the series, we urge the readers to take a look at the official clip of XO, Kitty cast Anna Cathcart, Sang Heon Lee, Anthony Keyvan, Choi Min-young, and Gia Kim explaining the ending of the first season, which is the epically emotional season finale airport scene. As the clip expands and follows, a new love story unfolds when teen matchmaker Kitty reunites with her long-distance boyfriend at the same Seoul high school attended by her late mother.
XO, Kitty Season 2 Expected Cast: Who will reprise their roles?
Even though nothing about the main cast members of the series who will be expected to reprise their roles for the second season has been confirmed, we speculate the following actors might reprise their roles, which include:
Anna Cathcart as Katherine “Kitty” Song Covey, Choi Min-young as Dae Heon Kim, Anthony Keyvan as Quincy Q Shabazian, Gia Kim as Yuri Han, Sang Heon Lee as Min Ho, Peter Thurnwald as Alex Finnerty, Regan Aliyah as Juliana Porter. The recurring cast members include Théo Augier as Florian, Yunjin Kim as Jina Lim, Michael K. Lee as Professor Lee, Jocelyn Shelfo as Madison Miller, Sunny Oh as Mihee, Ryu Han-bi as Eunice, Aaron Chan Meinero as Blake, John Corbett as Daniel Covey, Lee Sung-wook as Mr. Kim, and Lee Hyung-chul as Mr. Han.
There can be some new cast members introduced in the second season, which will be announced later if it ever happens! However, the guest cast members from the first season, which included John Corbett as Dan Covey, Sarayu Blue as Trina, Han Chae-young as Dami, Min Ho’s mother, Ok Taec-yeon as Ocean Park, and Chaerin from Cherry Bullet as Lulu, are still subject to change, and they might not return in the new season. We’ll just have to wait and see what characters the creators decide to incorporate into the show for the plot to progress.
XO, Kitty Season 2 Official Episode Count: Where to stream?
As per our guess, the upcoming season is expected to have a total of 10 episodes with an average runtime of 25 to 34 minutes, just like the first season. On the other hand, the episode titles and synopsis of the series have not been released yet. The network will publish those details when the episodes are due to air on the streaming service. So, we would advise fans to be patient and binge-watch all the first season’s episodes to recall the overall storyline.
When XO, Kitty Season 2 draws close to its release date along with the first season, it will be available exclusively on Netflix, with other series of the same genre also accessible on the streaming platform with a range of membership options depending on the package you choose. The basic membership starts at $9.99/month, and the standard membership starts at $15.49/month at no additional cost with any of their services.
XO, Kitty Season 2 Official Trailer: Has it been released?
Unfortunately, the network has not yet released any new teasers for XO, Kitty Season 2, as the filming is currently at a temporary halt due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike along with the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which hasn’t come to a resolution yet. Moreover, there is still a lot of time left for promotional efforts to begin, making it another reason why the network has not yet published any new teasers or trailers for the forthcoming season this early on, as it can also lead to major spoilers, which can badly affect the interest of the viewers!
In the meantime, check out the official trailer for the first season to recall what transpired in the season that followed: “As a new To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before the story begins in the official trailer for Xo, Kitty. Back for another adventure, this time her own, Kitty Song Covey thinks she knows everything there is to know about love. She’ll soon realize that relationships are a lot more complicated when it’s your own heart on the line.”
The series had a high viewership on Netflix in more than 50 countries, and the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported an 83% approval rating with an average rating of 5.8/10, based on 18 critic reviews. The website’s critics’ consensus reads, “A modest and sweet extension of all the films that fans have loved before, XO, Kitty aims straight for the heart and finds its mark.” Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 67 out of 100 based on seven critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews.”
