Jeezy has leveled accusations against his estranged wife, Jeannie Mai, alleging that she is acting as a “gatekeeper” of their daughter, Monaco, in the midst of their ongoing divorce. According to court documents ascertained by Page Six on Thursday, the rapper, 46, has filed a motion seeking a temporary hearing to address custody matters concerning their 1-year-old daughter, born in January 2022.
In the submitted documents, Jeezy, or Jay Wayne Jenkins, contends that since initiating the divorce proceedings on September 14, their toddler has been “temporarily residing” at the couple’s Los Angeles residence with Mai. “Since that time, the parties have endeavored to address temporary custodial arrangements on an informal basis,” stated the docs.
Jeezy claims that the current custody arrangement of the child is causing ‘tension’
“While the parties have agreed upon a visitation schedule through the end of 2023, which has been confirmed via communications between their counsel, to continue addressing custodial and parenting time issues in such an ad hoc manner is becoming increasingly less feasible,” as stated in the documents.
Jeezy, in the motion, asserted that the“lack of consistency, continuity and stability inherently associated with such a haphazard and fluid parenting time schedule” is causing stress for Monaco. The ‘All There’ artist claimed that the current custody arrangement is leading to “unnecessary tension and confusion” regarding their respective parenting rights when Monaco is under each of their individual care.
Jeezy accuses Jeanne Mai of acting as a ‘gatekeeper’
In the submitted documents, Jeezy clarified that, despite not attributing malicious intent to the 44-year-old host, he asserts that she has functioned as a “gatekeeper” in managing parenting time with the toddler.
“[Mai’s] interference with [Jeezy’s] relationship with the Child, again, while not generated from or with malicious intent, is nevertheless, causing confusion and tension between the parties and is working to stifle the development of Petitioner’s relationship with the Child,” as articulated in the documents.
“As such, it is necessary at this point to separate, structure and clearly define the parties’ temporary legal and physical custody rights and set a parenting time schedule consistent with the best interests of the Child.”
Jeezy filed for divorce from Mai in September
In September, the “Soul Survivor” rapper initiated divorce proceedings from Mai, concluding their two-year marriage. The father of four sought joint legal custody of their daughter, Monaco.
The ex-couple, who exchanged vows in March 2021, has chosen not to disclose the specific reasons behind their separation. It is important to note that they even tried to seek therapy to make their marriage work.
