Jennifer Lopez opens up about her being deprived of love during her childhood.
In her latest documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” Jennifer Lopez took a moment to reminisce about her childhood life expressing that she didn’t receive much love from her parents when she was a child.
“When I was growing up, I was always looking for somebody to make me feel loved,” she said, before adding, “I was a middle child, not the baby, not the firstborn … you just kind of get lost a little bit in between it all,” referring to her two sisters- Leslie Ann Lopez, who’s the oldest one and Lynda Lopez, who’s the youngest of the three sisters.
Lopez also said “I felt very ignored by my dad because he was always working nights, then all day he would sleep and I didn’t feel like I had enough of a connection with him,” talking about her father, David Lopez. She later shared insights about her relationship with her mother when she was a child by saying, “My mom was narcissistic, center of the attention, life-of-the-party-type person,” further adding, “My mom is a super-complicated woman and she carries a lot of baggage, she wanted us to be independent and never have to rely on a man. She did what she had to do to survive, and it made her strong, but it also made her tough. She beat the s–t out of us.”

She further revealed that “I wanted to try dance full time … I started sleeping on the sofa in the dance studio. I was homeless, but I told her, ‘This is what I have to do.’”
This isn’t the first time that the star has hinted about her difficult relationship with her mother as she has done the same previously in her 2022 Netflix documentary called “Halftime.” The mom and daughter’s relationship really drifted apart when they took “a break” for a while when Lopez decided not to go to college, which was completely against her mom’s wish. Although, now Lopez is on good terms with both her parents as she even shared an Instagram post for her dad on Father’s Day last year, where she wrote “Daddy, I love you,” to which David responded, “Thank you, sweetheart, I love you more.”

The “Can’t Get Enough” singer has also talked about being in abusive relationships in the documentary, where she said “Being thrown around and manhandled like that is not fun. I mean, I was never in a relationship where I got beat up, thank God. But I’ve definitely been manhandled and a couple of other unsavory things. Rough. Disrespectful,” without mentioning any of her exes’ names.
Lopez recently married her rekindled old flame, Ben Affleck, since the early 2000s when they dated and got engaged. They got married in Las Vegas in July 2022, having another big wedding in Georgia later.
