This year has been a complete bloodbath for many original series that have been canceled without getting another chance to expand as a long-serving franchise. As we approach the end of 2023, many viewers of the American neo-Western crime drama television series are getting a bit speculative about the future. The query is valid, as it’s been months since the second season ended on July 30, 2023, without any updates about the new season of Joe Pickett, which has become a cultural phenomenon.
The lack of updates eventually led many fans to demand that the show creators and network give some hints about the potential third season, whether it is going to get an early renewal or if it is getting canceled. So, if you’re one of those who want to learn more about these fan-driven calls for renewal, then you’ve come to the right place! To understand the situation and lobby for the show’s current status, we’ve compiled the latest details about Joe Pickett Season 3.
Joe Pickett Season 3 Renewal Status: Is it renewed or canceled?
Unfortunately, the answer to the fan’s query about the beloved drama series getting early approval for the third season is no!
The ongoing reports are true as “Joe Pickett” starring Michael Dorman has been canceled at Paramount+ after two seasons. Major publications like Deadline and Variety have also confirmed the series’ cancellation. If you recall, the drama series was originally commissioned by Charter Communications’ Spectrum Originals in early 2021. The first season aired on that platform beginning in December 2021, with Spectrum announcing a second season order in February 2022.
However, Spectrum Originals head Katherine Pope was named head of Sony Pictures Television in July 2022, with Charter announcing it would be shutting down Spectrum Originals operations in August of that year. Paramount+ has the streaming rights to the series, as it is produced by Paramount Television Studios, with Season 2 airing on the streaming service beginning in June 2023. For the time being, both seasons will be accessible via the streaming service.
Renowned novelist C.J. Box, who created the characters on which the series is based, also made a statement about the sudden cancellation of the show on X (formerly known as Twitter), quoting, “Yes, it’s true. We’re disappointed and we hope the very talented and very able people behind the show can find a new home for it in the coming months. If not, we’ll always be proud of JOE PICKETT and we treasure the experience of meeting and working with the producers, writers, and actors.”
The sudden cancellation of the show has led many die-hard fans to save the series by trending #SaveJoePickett on social media platforms, as they have also urged others to sign the official petition on change.org, which was started by Jenny Paul as soon as the news dropped online a few hours ago on November 1, 2023. The petition is also being supported by C.J. Box as it has already gotten 1,60o+ signatures, quote, “Plus, there’s this!” Take a look at the official post below:

About Joe Pickett
The series follows the life of Joe Pickett, a Wyoming-based game warden, and his family in the small town of Saddlestring and the surrounding wilderness of Yellowstone National Park. When a murder victim winds up on Joe’s doorstep, a larger conspiracy looms, and the Picketts find themselves in the crosshairs. Without the support of local law enforcement, Joe alone must decide what it means to be a good man and a good father in a world on the edge.
In the second season, the Wyoming game warden discovers a hunter murdered in the mountains and realizes this is just one of a series of gruesome murders. To solve the case and catch the killer, Joe must navigate a radical anti-hunting activist, a ghoulish set of twins living off the grid, and his own tortured past. Joe and his wife, Marybeth, discover that the murdered men aren’t as innocent as they seem. But when they dig too deep, they are forced to go on the run and fight for their very lives.
Along with Dorman, the cast of the show also included Julianna Guill, Skywalker Hughes, David Alan Grieer, Kamryn Pilva, Sharon Lawrence, Mustafa Speaks, Vivienne Guynn, Chad Rook, Aadila Dosani, Patrick Gallagher, and Robert Le Blanc. The show was created by John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle, who also served as directors, executive producers, and showrunners. Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher executive produced by Red Wagon Entertainment. Box was also an executive producer. Paramount Television Studios produced the series.
At last, the series was initially a streaming exclusive for Spectrum, having launched in December 2021, during which time it became the most-watched series on the network. Apart from Paramount+, the series is available to stream on Prime Video. You can also stream Joe Pickett by renting or purchasing on Amazon, Vudu, and Google Play, depending on the viewer’s location, with membership plans that the users can choose from, which are ideal platforms for international viewers.
