On the first episode of her iHeart podcast, JoJo Siwa opened up about why she has not done her iconic hairstyle in two years. While the ‘Dance Moms’ alum explained that she has “nothing against the hair bow”, she pointed out that the signature accessory ultimately ran its course.
‘I just haven’t worn it’
“I am now 20 years old. I have not stuck a hair bow in my hair for two years now,” she admitted on the ‘JoJo Siwa Now’ podcast, as per People. “Nothing against the hair bow, I just haven’t worn it.”
Siwa continued: “And I still love them. I still love JoJo bows. I love what JoJo bows mean. I love what they stand for. I love my past of wearing them every day. I still sometimes stick little bows in,” adding, “Anyways, it’s been a long two years, haven’t worn one.”
JoJo then went on to express that she still sometimes gets recognized by people because of her iconic hairstyle. “I’m not mad about it,” she said, highlighting her continued love for the JoJo bow and its message of acceptance.

JoJo admits to not wanting to wear the bow after she turned 18
The young dancer admitted that it was not just her fans who were eagerly waiting for her to stop using the career-defining accessory, but even her mom and Nickelodeon were waiting for this change.
“I think for me the thing with the bow is honestly, people would always ask me, ‘When’s the bow bow gonna go go?’ ” she recalled, noting that she even questioned herself about it. At the time, her response was, “I didn’t know.”
“I had no idea and I’m… like I said, I’m a firm believer in life just takes its course and we just gotta lean with it, rock with it,” she added. However, things changed after Siwa turned 18. “I literally was like, ‘I don’t want to wear it today.’ And my mom was like, ‘OK, so don’t.’ And I was like, ‘Alright. That feels right,’ ” she recounted.

JoJo had a temporary return to her signature hairstyle as an adult
After joining Dancing with the Stars in 2021, JoJo initially decided not to wear her iconic side ponytail and bow combo. However, she had a change of heart after realizing its value.
“It’s not a bad thing to be 18 and wear a bow,” she said. “Who cares? It’s who I am. It’s what I am. And so I said, ‘Yes.’ And I was like, ‘You know what? I will stick the thing in my head, I absolutely will.’ ”
However, the return was not permanent as in April 2022, JoJo underwent a haircut, making ponytails and bows a lot harder to style. Now, while wearing high ponytails has become a rarity for the child celeb, JoJo maintains a deep affection for the iconic bow.
“I mean, I’ve got nothing against the bow. I love it, I always will,” she said.
