An American crime drama television series, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit or more famously touted, Law & Order: SVU is created by Dick Wolf’s own production company, Wolf Entertainment, for NBC. After the show aired its 21st season in September 2019, it became the longest-running primetime U.S. live-action series in the history of television.
As of April 27th, 2023, reports suggest that Law & Order: SVU has surpassed 535 original episodes, crossing over the episode count of the original Law & Order series. Ranking fourth behind The Simpsons, Gunsmoke, and Lassie, SVU’s 24th season premiered on September 22, 2022. And, if you haven’t already heard it, on April 10th, 2023, the series was renewed for a 25th season.
For those unversed, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit follows the original Law & Order in terms of the content of the episodes, in that, they are loosely based on real crimes that have received significant media attention.
With Law & Order SVU advancing towards the end, a surprising twist is catapulting its way for the fans. Kelli Giddish, who exited in the winter finale of SVU, is going to reprise her role again as Amanda Rollins. And guess what? Amanda Rollins is pregnant! (deep breaths)

Law & Order: SVU Season 24 Finale Release Date
The finale episode will reportedly air on May 18, 2023 on NBC.
What can we expect to happen in Law & Order: SVU season finale?
As previously mentioned, Law & Order: SVU season 24 finale will feature Rollins, who after more than a decade on the NBC police procedural, left the series in December 2022. Her unexpected comeback implicitly leads to the anticipation of unexpected twists and turns that will presumably culminate in the 25th season. Although plot specifics have not been revealed fully as of yet, we do ascertain that Rollins’ reappearance is not alone; she has another life growing inside her. However, when asked about this matter, NBC refused to comment.
In a conversation with TV Insider, actor Octavio Pisano hinted at the possible delving into Detective Joe Velasco’s past in the latest episode. He said:
“I can’t say much. I can only say that Velasco is very happy to see her and very excited. That was his big sister when he came in and she took him under his wing. She taught him a lot of things when it came to dealing with victims and the process of a Special Victims Unit.”
Now that Giddish will be appearing on both Organized Crime and SVU, her former colleague Ice-T (Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola) shared a photo of them on the set of Organized Crime. This implicitly points to “a lot of crossovers” at the end of the seasons. Pisano also said, “A lot happens. This is a big case, and let’s just say there’s a big incident that’s going to impact everyone on a personal level.”
Additionally, he revealed that Velasco works predominantly with Detective Bobby Reyes (Rick Gonzalez) from Organized Crime. He said, “It’s great. They have a very similar mode of operating and perspective and backstory. Both have similar upbringing, similar age and almost like a similar situation coming into these squad rooms and trying to find their place in it.”
Why did Kellie Giddish leave Law & Order: SVU?
Kelli Giddish’s Rollins left the Manhattan SVU after she got married to ADA Sonny Carisi, who was previously a detective under Captain Olivia Benson. However, the reason why Giddish left Law & Order:SVU is still quite nebulous. The rumours suggested that she was forced out of the series and she did not want to leave it voluntarily. However, neither the actor nor anyone at Wolf Entertainment and NBC has spoken about it.
Considering that Rollins did not have complex or lingering plotlines that needed to be covered urgently, SVU did manage to send off Rollins with some ease. According to Screen Rant, “There’s very little to no chance that Giddish comes back full time especially if the rumours are true, but it’s also heartwarming for Rollins to share the screen with Liv, Fin, and Carisi. Given her pregnancy, however, she may not be doing any heavy detective work in the outing, but perhaps she can help crack a case.”
Apart from Law & Order: SVU, Giddish will reportedly reprise her role as Rollins in the penultimate season of Law & Order: Organized Crime.
When will the next episode of Law & Order: SVU Season 24 release?
Episode 20, Debatable, is all to air on May 4, 2023.
The official synopsis of the episode states, “Benson tries to help a student after she’s assaulted on a field trip; Fin suspects a witness in the case may not be telling the whole truth.”
