Law & Order: SVU Season 25  Release Date

Law & Order: SVU Season 25: Release date speculation, characters that will reprise their roles, plot and more

We have something to confess, and it is not a good confession. Law & Order: SVU Season 25 is NOT coming in August 2023!

We are disheartened to inform you of this development and bring the news to you with a heavy heart. Owing to the show’s two-decade-long success, the Law & Order: SVU Season 25 renewal gave us hope. However, following this, NBC has not given any formal announcement on the release date or confirmation on whether the show will air in the fall of 2023.

We assumed that the series would follow its usual hiatus after resealing Season 24 from September 2022 to May 2023. However, any hopes of an announcement of the start of writing, filming, or otherwise were crushed when the WGA strike began in May 2023. Two months later, SAG AFTRA joined in on the strike, causing actors and writers to take to the streets to protest for their wage rights and better protection against artificial intelligence.

We are currently entering the third month of the strike, and there are no bouts of development over any negotiation between parties. This caused the official channels to revise their series release schedules, sending most of the renewals into the late 2023 and early 2024 blocks. Law & Order: SVU happens to be one of them, according to NBC Network.

So our prediction on Law & Order: SVU Season 25 release date is early 2024 (March, April, May timeline), Thursdays on 9/8c on NBC, pushing back the series release by a few months. Moreover, you can gain hope from the official Twitter handle of @lawandordertv, whose description reads

” #LawAndOrder and #SVU return Thursday this fall and #OrganizedCrime returns in 2024 on

The series was ordered for a 22-episode season by the official network, which might only face an issue due to time paucity (owing to the current double strike) or production budgetary cost cuts.

Speaking on some major series renewals this season, Dick Wolf stated:

“I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC.”Further adding, “All six shows being picked up again is the ultimate accolade to our incredible casts, producers, and writers. I’d also like to thank our loyal fans who have kept our NBC shows on the air for what will be a cumulative 84 seasons.”

We will keep updating you as we pick up on any updates regarding the same.

Since no formal announcements have been made on any new additions to the cast this season, here is a list of cast members for Law & Order: SVU Season 25 who we predict will return to the screen:

  • Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson
  • Kelli Giddish as Senior Detective Amanda Rollins
  • Ice-T as Sergeant Odafin ‘Fin” Tutuola
  • Peter Scanavino as Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi
  • Jr.Octavio Pisano as Junior Detective Joe Velasco

Molly Burnett, who played Junior Detective Grace Muncy, has been reported to leave the show,  Deadline confirms.

Lisa Katz, the president of scripted programming at NBCUniversal and Streaming, said in a statement,

“We understand the emotional connection our audience has with these characters and we can’t wait to bring more of their stories to the forefront next season. A huge thank you to Dick and his amazing team who are the masters of producing incredibly compelling television week after week.”

We feel the same, Lisa!

Law & Order: SVU Season 25 Plot

There is no official announcement or teaser on what the plot for Season 25 entails. However, we can make a reliable speculated guess from the official synopsis of the series, which reads as follows:

This groundbreaking series from executive producer Dick Wolf’s “Law & Order” franchise chronicles the ripped-from-the-headlines investigations of the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit. Led by courageous and compassionate Capt. Olivia Benson, this elite team includes Sgt. Odafin Tutuola, Detective Amanda Rollins, Officer Katriona Tamin, and Deputy Chief Christian Garland focus on finding justice for the victims of the city’s worst crimes. Assisting them is ADA Sonny Carisi, who seeks justice for SVU’s victims and survivors with passion and precision.

The series will probably pick up where Law & Order: SVU Season 24 finale, “All Pain Is One Malady,” left off. In the quest for a revenge-for-hire crime ring, the globally sporadic case is taken on by the combined forces of Benson and Stabler. Fin and Bruno help a victim assaulted a second time, and Jet’s plan to hack the dark web backfires and puts the team in danger.

We expect more adventures, more ground-breaking criminal revelations, shared team values, and our heroes in action!

As we get more updates on the supposed plotlines for Season 25, we will keep updating you here.
