Is Love on the Spectrum returning for another season on Netflix? Read on to find out more about Love on the Spectrum Season 2.
Love on the Spectrum is an Australian documentary series that explores the lives of autistic young adults looking for love. It differs from other television shows in that it follows people on the autistic spectrum as they navigate the dating world. As the fall season is upon us, we have some excellent news for the fans as the streaming service has renewed Emmy winner Love on the Spectrum for a second season and is also expanding its The Ultimatum franchise.
It follows the success of the American version of Love on the Spectrum, which won three Emmys, including Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program, beating out shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked! and Selling Sunset. Due to popular demand by the viewers, it was easy for the network to continue and expand this franchise. To help you prepare before streaming the new season, we’ve put up a quick summary of everything about the latest season of Love on the Spectrum.
Will there be another season of Love on the Spectrum?
Yes, Netflix has officially confirmed that the series is getting another season on September 22, 2022. As creator Cian O’Clery explained to Screen Australia, the idea for the show first came about when he was working on another series about people with disabilities.
“We were getting to know these people really well and finding out about what their hopes and dreams were in life in general, and it just kept coming up that people really wanted to find love,” he explained. Further adding, “And it seemed like there wasn’t a lot of support out there to help.”
Love on the Spectrum Season 2 Release Date
Like many series, the release date for Love on the Spectrum Season 2 is presently uncertain, although that is likely because the season’s development is still in its pre-production phase as it was recently renewed. The writers will need some time to complete the season, and the cast will need time to introduce any past or new characters for new themes and plots.
If we have to speculate, the show is expected to have a release in mid-2023 or sometime in the summer of 2024, with episodes lasting, on average, 40 minutes. On the other hand, this is just speculation that the next season might follow the same pattern and be released in a similar time frame. All these details will be released by Netflix once the production of the series wraps up on a timely schedule.
Love on the Spectrum Season 2 Plot
According to its logline, the show is “an insightful and warm-hearted docu-reality series following people on the autism spectrum as they navigate the world of dating and relationships. Following the success of the multi award-winning Australian series, this U.S.-based series tells the stories of a unique and diverse cast of characters searching for something we all hope to find: love.”
Love on the Spectrum Season 2 Cast
It is unspecified which of these stars will return for a second season, but O’Cleary told Screen Australia, that they are always looking to showcase a variety of people on the spectrum. “Everybody’s different. You’ve got people with very low support needs who are highly intelligent, who have great jobs, who are professors, and you’ve got people who need support 24 hours a day,” he explained.
“So I think that’s really important and that’s really a great opportunity to be able to share these people’s real-life stories.” He added that they always tell the cast that “we’re filming this show on your terms.” The statement suggests that if somebody returns for a second season, it will be because they have decided to continue telling their story on their own terms.
Love on the Spectrum Season 2 Episodes
Love on the Spectrum’s new season is expected to have the same episode count of six episodes, which is produced by Australian producer Northern Pictures, which created the format that launched Down Under first, and is executive produced by Karina Holden and Cian O’Clery. All the episodes are expected to be released on the same day. We speculate that it is intended to follow the same framework as the first season to be consistent.
Moreover, the network will publish those details when the episodes are due to air on the streaming service. So, we would advise fans to be patient while waiting for these updates, which will be issued in the coming months.
