Looks like the winning streak of professional thief Assane Diop isn’t going to stop anytime soon!

With many new original series making their official comeback with brand new seasons on Netflix, there is one such French mystery thriller series created by George Kay and François Uzan, ‘Lupin’, which has marked its territory on the streaming platform in a very special way, as from the get-go it has been able to garner amazing overall reception, be it from critics or fans around the world. Due to this, the series has been watched by millions of households and has easily become one of the most-watched non-English series on Netflix in recent times.

As of June 2023, the charts indicated that Part 1 was ranked third within this category, with an equivalent of 99.5 million completed viewings, while Part 2 is ranked sixth, with 68.4 million. In a press release published in October 2023, Netflix described the show’s first two parts as “mainstays on the Most Popular Non-English TV List.” In addition to this, Lupin is one of the most successful Netflix series in a language other than English.

And it will still continue to grow in terms of viewership and popularity, much to everyone’s expectations.

As the much-awaited third part of the beloved series, which debuted on October 5, 2023, has also gotten the same kind of love and appreciation since its premiere, just like the last two seasons. For context, Part 3 reached number one in many countries in Europe and Latin America and hit number two in the United States on October 9 and again on October 11.

The show’s third part received similarly positive reviews, although some critics felt that the new set of episodes suffered due to lower stakes for Assane’s character.

On the bright side, all three parts of the crime heist series Lupin have also added more credit to its name, as it recently claimed the most-watched series on Netflix for the week. This isn’t something that should be overlooked by the audience. The third part easily crept into the top spot with 14.1 million views, easily taking the top spot on the non-English TV charts. Parts 1 and 2 also remained among the Top 10 at No. 2 (4.7 million views) and No. 4 (4.3 million views), respectively.

There is just Strong Girl Nam-soon: Season 1, which has taken the third spot with 4.4 million views, which means all three series are still in the race to reach the top three spots for Netflix’s Top 10 TV (non-English) list. Furthermore, even though the new season was released just a few days ago, we are confident that it will continue to chart or, at the very least, hold its current position in the worldwide charts for the upcoming weeks.

One of the reasons is that Lupin” Part 3 has captivated audiences with its thrilling storyline and charismatic lead character, making it a global sensation with its clever heists, unexpected twists, and impeccable performances, and it’s no surprise that it has now successfully claimed the top spot as this week’s most-watched series on Netflix, just like the prior two sensational seasons!

About Lupin Part 3

According to Netflix Tudum, the official synopsis of the third part is as follows:

“In the new volume, we see Assane Diop (Omar Sy) planning his most intense — and probably most insane — heist yet. The master of disguise isn’t afraid of danger, and this stunt is a 12 out of 10 on the danger scale.

When we last saw Assane, he was on the run from the police. While he may have successfully revealed a major insurance fraud perpetrated by mega-rich entrepreneur Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre) — the man responsible for framing his father and sending him to prison years ago — that wasn’t before Hubert framed him for murder. Now the most-wanted man in France, Assane decides it’s better for his son, Raoul (Etan Simon), and ex, Claire (Ludivine Sagnier), if he falls off the radar for a bit.”

*Spoiler Alert*

In the finale episode, we get to see that Claire hides in a closet with Raoul and throws Keller off the trail by making a call to her home phone, in which she implies that neither she nor Raoul is there and that a police officer will be visiting. Afterward, she calls Assane and begs him to pick her and Raoul up. Assane brings Claire and Raoul to his hideout, where they meet Mariama; he promises that he will get all of them out of Paris.

Assane and Mariama infiltrate the offices of the minister for the interior and steal his phone. After threatening to send the contents of the phone to the press, Assane orders the minister to let Manon out of prison. Assane finds Manon and asks her to help him catch Keller. She is initially reluctant but has a change of heart when Assane explains Keller’s manipulative behavior.

She calls Keller and tells him that she has found a buyer for the black pearl at the Arc de Triomphe. When Keller arrives for the rendezvous, he finds only Assane, who has called the police. Keller realizes that he has been set up and tries to run, but he is captured. Making good on his earlier promise, Assane allows Guédira to arrest him on the condition that Benjamin be set free.

Claire arrives at the train station the following morning with Raoul and Mariama in tow, eagerly awaiting Assane’s arrival. However, it is Benjamin who turns up, carrying a letter from Assane in which he explains his actions and assures a heartbroken Claire how much he loves her. Assane settles into life in jail but is shocked when he receives an envelope from a neighboring inmate containing a photograph of Assane as a teenager holding an Arsène Lupin book, Cagliostro’s Revenge. In the end, the fellow prisoner turns out to be none other than Hubert Pellegrini.
