Soon after Nintendo announced a live-action movie adaption of its fan-favorite video game series ‘The Legend of Zelda’, Machine Gun Kelly posted a screenshot of an article on his Instagram story, expressing his interest in taking up the lead role in the film. “If I don’t play Link we have a problem,” Kelly, 33, captioned the post, speaking of the video game series’ main guy.

MGK is a well-known fan of the popular video game series and is often seen playing it. This passion was notably evident when the ‘Bad Things’ singer and his fiance Megan Fox dressed up as Link and the series’ iconic protagonist, Princess Zelda, on Halloween in Los Angeles. The movie will be directed by Wes Ball of ‘Maze Runner’ trilogy fame.

The Legend of Zelda has been in the works for a while

Nintendo’s game designer and Legend of Zelda co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday that the Zelda movie project has been in development for some time. “I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films,” tweeted Miyamoto, 70, who is producing the movie.

Nintendo speaks on the film

“By producing visual contents of Nintendo IP by itself, Nintendo is creating new opportunities to have people from around the world to access the world of entertainment which Nintendo has built, through different means apart from its dedicated game consoles,” Nintendo stated in a press release for the film’s announcement.

The release continued, “By getting deeply involved in the movie production with the aim to put smiles on everyone’s faces through entertainment, Nintendo will continue its efforts to produce unique entertainment and deliver it to as many people as possible.”

What is the plot?

The film will likely follow the story of Link, a heroic elf, much like the game franchise. Throughout various incarnations, Link consistently assists Princess Zelda in her quest to rescue the kingdom of Hyrule from the antagonist, Ganon. The plot of the movie is not yet disclosed. Moreover, the release is also under wraps.
