The story will now continue further this February, as the new season of NBC’s hit private eye series based in the Aloha State will premiere on the channel, following the high demands of fans around the globe. Magnum P.I. Season 5: When will the new season premiere on NBC?

Magnum P.I. was canceled by CBS on May 12, 2022, six days after the end of the fourth season. However, on May 23, 2022, it was reported by TVLine that Universal Television was trying to shop the series around. Ten days later, Deadline Hollywood reported that talks were underway for the series to potentially be carried by NBC and/or USA. Such a move would require a deal with CBS Studios by June 30, 2022, when the cast members’ options on their contracts end. Magnum P.I. comes to us with a passionate fanbase already in place that we intend to nourish,” Susan Rovner, Chairman of Entertainment Content at NBCUniversal, said in a press release. 

Now, it has been officially confirmed that the new episodes are confirmed to release in a few weeks on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the late night time slot of 9:00 PM ET every Sunday on NBC, and later each episode will be accessible for streaming on Peacock. It will follow the tenth season of The Blacklist and lead into the first season of Found. In addition to this, it was reported by TVLine that production on the season would begin in late 2022. As, the filming began on September 19, 2022, with a traditional Hawaiian blessing. There is more good news as the season is being written at the same time as the sixth season.

Magnum P.I. Season 5: What to expect in the new season?

According to NBC Insider, Magnum P.I. is a reboot of the beloved ’80s crime series of the same name, starring Hernandez as the ex-Navy SEAL turned smooth-talking private investigator, Thomas Magnum. When Magnum isn’t working as a security consultant for the endlessly elusive author Robin Masters, he and his valued team tackle some of the most insane cases Hawaii has ever seen. Season 5 is bound to have a slew of adventures on the Hawaiian horizon, picking up where Season 4 left off. 

In the final episode of the fourth season, “Close to Home,” the viewers got to see that Gordon’s ex-wife Beth is taken hostage, and the captors demand that Gordon kill his imprisoned ex-partner Whelan. Gordon is assisted by Magnum and Higgins in releasing Whelan from custody after learning that Ray Nasano, who also killed Gordon’s sister Kim, was the blackmailer. Ray is captured and Beth is saved, but Gordon is fired from the HPD. Suzy gives birth to a girl in the meantime. Higgins and Magnum confess their love for one another and share a kiss.

Magnum P.I. Season 5: Who will return in the new season?

On October 3, 2022, it was reported by TVLine that Michael Rady has been cast in a recurring role as HPD Detective Chris Childs, debuting in the season premiere. The main cast members with their character synopsis of the series are as follows: 

  • Jay Hernandez as Thomas Magnum: A former Navy SEAL who is a security consultant for the successful novelist Robin Masters, living in the guest house on his estate, while also working as a private investigator.
  • Perdita Weeks as Juliet Higgins: A former MI6 agent who is majordomo to Robin Masters; she and Magnum bicker but become allies.
  • Zachary Knighton as Orville “Rick” Wright: A Marine veteran and former door gunner, who runs his own tiki bar and is also a playboy
  • Stephen Hill as Theodore “T.C.” Calvin: A Marine veteran and helicopter pilot who runs helicopter tours of Hawaii and is a member of Magnum’s team
  • Amy Hill as Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta: The cultural curator of Robin Masters’ estate

The returning guest stars for the season include Emily Alana and Martin Martinez. The recurring cast members of the series are Michael Rady as HPD Detective Chris Childs. Along with, Tim Kang as suspended Honolulu Police Department (HPD) Detective Gordon Katsumoto, who “dislikes” Magnum but usually comes to the team’s aid when needed.

A fifth season was reportedly in “active development” as of June 10 according to Production Weekly. Later, NBC formally announced that it had picked up the show for a total of 20 episodes, which would likely be spread across two seasons with the possibility of more. The executive producers would return, and CBS Studios and Universal TV would continue to co-produce the show, according to the information available at the time.
