Tensions between longtime friends Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion have taken a sharp turn for the worse. The recent twist in their feud unfolded on Friday, January 26, just after Megan released her latest single “Hiss,” featuring snake-themed elements. In the first verse, she delivers a cutting line: “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan / These hoes mad at Megan’s Law.”

Megan’s Law, established by the U.S. government in the ’90s, requires law enforcement to disclose information about registered sex offenders publicly. The lyrics were quickly perceived as a reference to Nicki’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender. Petty, 45, was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in 1995, and in 2021, he pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender in California after moving from New York.

What was Nicki Minaj’s response to Megan Thee Stallion’s diss?

Nicki, 41, responded to Megan’s diss in her way as she went Instagram Live “have a little fun.” She previewed a snippet of an unreleased song with the lyrics, “Bad bitch she like 6 foot / I call her big foot / The bitch fell off / I said get up on your good foot.”

The verse might have been referencing the incident where Megan was shot in the foot by Tory Lanez in 2020. Lanez, 31, was subsequently found guilty of three felony assault charges related to the shooting and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023.

During the Live session, the ‘Barbie Thingz’ rapper repeated the audio as she laughed along with her lyrics. However, she didn’t stop there and went on to critique Megan’s flow and rap skills, stating, “You have three Grammys and you have to learn how to rap on the beat and be comfortable in the music.” Minaj then playfully imitated Megan’s fast-paced flow.

Beyond the Live session, Nicki engaged in a spree of “liking” posts on X that ridiculed Megan’s appearance and made references to the Lanez shooting. Megan appeared to respond indirectly to Minaj’s comments through her Instagram Story after the livestream, sharing a photo of herself laughing, seemingly not caring about Minaj’s clapback.

It is unclear why Nicki and Megan are beefing up

The reason for the fallout between Nicki and Megan remains uncertain. They have previously collaborated on the 2019 hit song, “Hot Girl Summer.” Fan speculation suggests that tensions arose when Megan collaborated with Nicki’s rival Cardi B on the 2020 single “WAP.”

Fans have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to express their take on the ongoing situation. “I’m sorry but Megan staying silent while Nicki been spiraling about that #MegansLaw bar since 12:05am is sending me #Hiss,” read a viral tweet. “Nicki thinks she’s gagging us saying she got “tea” from KELSEY? trusting a word out of bitch mouth that got on the stand and committed perjury is insane business. megan wasn’t lying when she said her opps had to link up to handle her,” another fan sided with Megan.

Nicki over there SPIRALING like a crack head fresh outta c*ke and Megan prolly at home watching anime…..” a fan tweeted. “Megan: • “dont be mad at megan, be mad at Megans Law”… • “bad bitch and the walls aint bending”… • “nose full of the tina snow” Nicki: •“I call her big foot,” a fan pointed out.
