It is the first Fox Entertainment Studios production following the company’s inception in 2022. The network has officially confirmed that the series will premiere this year with its first two episodes already airing on September 11 and September 20, 2022, and will continue to release new episodes every Tuesday at 9/8c on Fox and later on Hulu.

Monarch Plot
Monarch is a multigenerational musical drama about America’s first family of country music, the Romans. The Romans are headed by the insanely talented but tough-as-nails Queen of Country Music, Dottie Cantrell Roman, played by Sarandon. Along with her beloved husband Albie, played by Adkins, Dottie has created a country music dynasty.
But even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. And when their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown Nicolette “Nicky” Roman, played by Friel, will stop at nothing to protect her family’s legacy while ensuring her own quest for stardom.
Monarch: What happened in the pilot episode?
The pilot episode, Stop At Nothing, was released on September 11, 2022, and was viewed by 4.03 million US viewers. The episode is directed by Jason Ensler and written by Melissa London Hilfers. In the episode, the viewers got to see that Dottie Roman, the Queen of Country Music, and her husband Albie are being interviewed ahead of receiving a CMA lifetime achievement award when a reporter inquires about her unwillingness to perform owing to a supposed cancer diagnosis.
Dottie tries to dismiss it, but when the reporter insists, Albie hits him, and Dottie’s diagnosis becomes public. As word spreads, Nicky, their daughter and an aspiring artist trying to break free from her family’s shadow, and Luke, their son, and CEO of Monarch Records, try to deal with the fallout by promoting the upcoming family tour as a tribute to Dottie, though the promoter warns that if Dottie does not perform, they are considering withdrawing funding if an upcoming preview show is not successful.
Nicky invites her sister Gigi to sing at the showcase with her, but she declines, explaining that she is tired of fighting for their parents’ love, while Luke and Albie disagree over the former’s management of Monarch. Dottie persuades Gigi to perform by telling her that she is doing it for her siblings, and she persuades Luke not to leave Monarch by promising to leave him her shares in the firm when she dies. After the show, Albie admits to Dottie that he cheated on her when they first married, and she admits that she’s always known and swears to love him forever.
Nicky believes Dottie released the news of her diagnosis in order to go out on her own terms. Dottie asks Nicky to assist her in committing suicide, and despite her reservations, she complies. Dottie admits in her final hours to doing things that cannot be forgiven. Gigi comes and finds Nicky holding an empty medicine bottle next to their mother, who is unresponsive. In a flashback, Albie buries a body.
