Will Michael Weatherly reprise his role in NCIS Season 20?
He appeared in the series for 16 years, from 2003 to 2016. Since then, the fans have been wondering if he will return or not. After the NCIS Season 19 finale, executive producer Steven D. Binder spoke with TV Insider about Weatherly’s potential comeback. When asked about Anthony DiNozzo’s return, Binder said, “I absolutely would love to do something like that.” However, it seems like it might be a while before DiNozzo gets reunited with his former team.
Binder further added, “The last conversation I had with him was that he’s going to take some time off and rest because he went from a very difficult schedule on NCIS to headlining his own show for six years, through COVID, but I can say that I consider him a friend, so it’s not a difficult conversation to have with him. It’s just a question of whether or not it works out.”
Moreover, Michael Weatherly has already discussed the demanding filming schedule for NCIS. After the show’s final season aired, he spoke to People and said, “Last year I did 26 episodes of NCIS the franchise, which is insane. “You wouldn’t really want a mortal person to be doing that, but luckily I’m made of titanium and it’s very strong.” Asked if he would return to the franchise, he said: “I would absolutely be open to anything and everything—including things that no one’s even thought of yet. So, I would say the long answer is yes.”
Additionally, Sean Murray, who plays Timothy McGee in NCIS, uploaded an old photo of his character and DiNozzo, which fueled the rumors even further. The fact that CBS NCIS’ official Instagram account joins in and comments that they “love a good throwback,” just serves to confirm this theory further. For what it was worth, the actor left the show primarily because he was the star of his own show, Bull. The actor has more time now that the CBS show is over to consider making a comeback on his previous series. Fortunately, NCIS has left plenty of room for DiNozzo to get back with his former squad. The “Very Special Agent” retired from the project to devote more time to his family, which made it quite simple for the authors to devise a method to bring him back for a case—or two. Only time will tell whether it is true or not. In the meantime, check out the post below with fans’ comments about the possibility of his return for the upcoming season.
