Will the fans see more of Abby Sciuto‘s story in NCIS Season 20? Continue reading to find out.
Pauley Perrette played NCIS Forensic Specialist Abby Sciuto in NCIS.. The character’s gothic style of dress and her interest in death and the supernatural contrast with her generally hyperactive demeanor and enthusiasm about her work made her one of the audience’s favorites from the series. She has become one of the most beloved characters in the NCIS franchise.
On October 4, 2017, Pauley Perrette announced that she would be departing the show at the conclusion of Season 15. CBS aired her final episode on May 8, 2018. In the Season 15 episodes “One Step Forward” and “Two Steps Back,” the character of Clayton Reeves, an MI6 agent, dies protecting Abby from a hitman hired to kill her.
Abby is severely wounded in the attempt but recovers and tracks down the man who arranged the hit, a black-ops expert whom she had encountered several years earlier. She tricks him into believing that she has spiked his coffee with a fatal dose of cyanide, then offers to give him the antidote in exchange for his confession; the ploy succeeds, and he is quickly arrested by the agents.
Abby subsequently resigns from NCIS to accompany Reeves’ body back to England and start a charity in honor of Reeves and his mother to help the homeless. As the 20th season is all set to premiere on CBS this month, many rumors surrounding Pauley Perrette’s return have gained momentum as the anticipating of the fans is at its peak.
The viewers know that NCIS Season 20 will be premiering new episodes on September 19, 2022, Mondays at 9/8c. The official NCIS Twitter handle also confirmed the news by sharing a post with a new poster, quoting, “Check out this epic new art for #NCIS season 20! Anyone else counting down the days until September 19?” Take a look at the official post below:

Is Abby Sciuto returning for the new season?
Many fans have known that NCIS Season 20 might make a reference to Gibbs at any time in the upcoming episodes, but they are also curious as to whether they could do the same with Abby. It has been a while seen the viewers got to see and know about her in the show.
In an exclusive interview with TVLine, showrunner Steven D. Binder had to say, transitioning to Abby after first talking a little about Mark Harmon’s character, quote, “We are always thinking about ways to involve [Gibbs] in a way that doesn’t ‘rip off the scab’ and doesn’t ruin what I thought was the only fitting send-off for this guy … I want to start doing that with Abby’s character as well. I’d like to start feeling her [presence] a little more. I thought we were a little remiss in not [doing that sooner], but there are so many moving parts…. But she is still out there fighting the good fight and watching us, and she is a part of us and we’re a part of her.”
Is Pauley Perrette interested in returning to the show?
In June 2019, a year after her NCIS exit, Perrette tweeted, “NO I AM NOT COMING BACK! EVER!,” before alluding to an October 2016 incident where Harmon’s dog allegedly bit a crew member. Take a look at the official post on her Twitter page below:
NO I AM NOT COMING BACK! EVER! (Please stop asking?) I am terrified of Harmon and him attacking me. I have nightmares about it. I have a new show that is SAFE AND HAPPY! You’ll love it!#HappyPlace Love y’all!

In August 2019, CBS entertainment chief Kelly Kahl told TVLine that Perrette “did come to us a couple of years ago with a workplace concern. We immediately investigated it and we resolved it to everyone’s satisfaction.” In March 2019, Perrette was cast in the CBS sitcom Broke, which would premiere a year later and last only one season. “We are very happy to have her on the air again with us,” Kahl told TVLine, “and I don’t think she would be back with us if she had huge concerns.”
Nevertheless, Mark Harmon has now departed the series, so if Pauley’s comeback is a possibility, it is more feasible now than in past years. The most compelling proof that Pauley is in talks to return to the drama came earlier this year when she shared a photo of herself with her former co-star Brian Dietzen. This one picture alone has increased the interest of the fans, and they are curious to know everything about her characters’ potential return. Taking to Twitter, Pauley shared a selfie of her with Brian Dietzen of them smiling at the camera with her beloved pooch Rosie in her arms, which she captioned: “Me and @BrianDietzen today. (And #RescueDog Rosie!) :).”
