On May 31, 2022, CBS officially announced the series’ renewal for a 20th season. According to the network, NCIS will be a part of CBS’s fall lineup for the 2022-2023 TV season. This indicates that it is likely that the upcoming season will return to tv screens sometime in September 2022.
The CBS network also confirmed the news by sharing the renewal announcement on the official Twitter handle, quoting, “CBS FALL SCHEDULE. From returning favorites to new faces, get into something good this fall with CBS.” Take a look at the post below:

According to Deadline, Kelly Kahl, President, of CBS Entertainment stated, “NCIS, one of the most popular and enduring series in the world, and fan-favorite NCIS: Los Angeles has been hugely successful on the CBS schedule for years.”
Further adding, “With the strong new addition of NCIS: Hawai’i, we are able to expand the strength of this formidable franchise across our schedule. We couldn’t be more excited to have all three talented casts and creative teams back to bring more compelling NCIS stories to viewers in the U.S. and around the globe.”
Over the years, fans have noticed that the series has stayed true to its debut dates and has provided fans with a normal season of 21 – 24 episodes with a duration of 39 to 44 minutes in order to continue this enormously successful franchise.
As a result, we are certain that the series will not be delayed for minor reasons, and that the episodes will be released on time in the fall, as planned by the showrunners and the NCIS creative team. Fans simply need to be patient with the updates, since they take time and are strategically pushed to entice people to tune in to watch the series.
NCIS Season 20 Release Date
It’s hard to say when the release date for NCIS Season 20 will be confirmed by the network. After the premiere of the finale episode of Season 19, Birds of a Feather, on May 23, 2022, there has been no update provided by CBS, although previous dates provide some insight.
Except for the COVID-delayed 2020 season, all NCIS seasons have premiered between September 19 and September 28. Hence, chances are that NCIS Season 20 could be released on September 19 or September 26. The former appears to be the more likely, based on the publication date of September 20 last year.
NCIS Season 20 Time Slot
NCIS seems to be staying in the time slot as it moved into this season after more than 15 years on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET. This means the show will air at 9 p.m. ET on Mondays, right before NCIS: Hawai’i at 10 p.m. As per many reports, the drama series has secured its place as the No. 1 most-watched broadcast series this season, with 11.11 million viewers and a +149 percent increase in its new Monday 9 p.m. time slot.
With approximately 95.8 billion potential social media impressions, the series has also done well on social media. So, it is unlikely that the time slots will be changed unless there are certain adjustments that the network will certainly notify the viewers.
