Is NCIS returning for another season? Here’s everything you need to know about NCIS Season 20.

NCIS is an American police procedural television series centered on a fictional team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which combines aspects of the military drama and police procedural genres. When a series runs for 19 seasons, which is a very long time, the themes of the show tend to shift a lot, and they’ve all been handled extremely effectively.

Even with so many cast changes, the show’s grandeur has stood the test of time. It’s intriguing, and the personalities, regardless of whether they’re old or new to the show, have a fantastic dynamic together. It has consistently good plot arcs, relationships, and other elements.

Moreover, NCIS has also successfully weathered the leading man shift from Mark Harmon to Gary Cole, according to Deadline, securing a renewal. According to Nielsen, the venerable drama is the No. 1 most-watched broadcast series this season, with 11.11 million viewers and a +149 percent increase in its new Monday 9 p.m. time slot. With approximately 95.8 billion potential social media impressions, the series has also done well on social media.

Sean Murray who plays NCIS Senior Field Agent Timothy McGee also shared the news on his Instagram handle, quoting, “here we go again, baby… =) #ncis #season20.”

NCIS Season 20 Release Date

The series renewal was officially announced by CW on May 31, 2022. Moreover, NCIS Season 19 recently aired its finale episode, Birds of a Feather, which was released on May 23, 2022. It is a 21-episode season.

So, asking for an exact official release date for NCIS Season 20 seems a little early. On the other hand, this is a good signal that the series was always planned to continue the storyline as the finale episode did end with a major cliffhanger which makes it even more exciting for the viewers to tune into the upcoming season and watch new episodes without any major delays in the production.

It is currently impossible to determine the exact release date for the 20th season, however, based on the pattern of previous seasons’ release dates, fans have predicted that the season will launch on the network sometime in late 2022, in the months of September to November, i.e. this year’s fall.

We’d like to emphasize that this is merely speculation; the network will announce official details in the coming months, so fans should wait patiently for verified news rather than pure conjecture.

NCIS Season 20 Plot

The official description of the series on the CBS website states, “NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is more than just an action drama. With liberal doses of humor, it’s a show that focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations.”

NCIS Season 20 is expected to expand on this already established premise for the prior seasons and continue the storyline from the very last episode of the series which the viewers got to see on the CBS channel on May 23, 2022. The episode, Birds of a Feather, was estimated to be viewed by 7.47 million US viewers. Moreover, it is reported to be directed by Terrence O’Hara and written by Christopher J. Waild.

The official synopsis of the episode states, “When Agent Parker is framed for murder, the team puts their jobs and lives on the line in order to buy time and uncover the truth..”

The upcoming season is expected to be picked up and revealed where the overall plot of the series is going in terms of characters and storylines from this precise moment of the finale episode. All of the previous episodes have set the tone for the recent season, which will see the story develop and expand in ways that will entice viewers to watch the show.

So far, viewers have appreciated every episode, prompting them to watch the series on a weekly basis via streaming or on-air broadcast on their television screens. Least to say the viewership of the series is no joke as the fans have loved these characters for a long time and still tune in to watch the next chapter which makes it even more exciting for the viewers by anticipating the plotlines.

NCIS Season 20 Episodes

Although the exact number of episodes for NCIS Season 20 has not been released, we can expect it to be in the same range as past seasons, ranging from 21 to 24 episodes with an average length of between 39 – 44 minutes. Because the series is broadcast by CBS, the network’s television shows strive to keep a consistent episode count over seasons in order to maintain the story’s continuity.

However, because the number of episodes has varied from season to season, it will be difficult to forecast the precise number of episodes for the following season because it is up to the show makers to reduce or expand the season. As a result, we advise viewers to wait a few months for the network to confirm the titles of each upcoming season’s episode. In the meantime, binge-watch all the previous episodes of the recently aired NCIS Season 19 on the streaming services of your preference.
