NCIS Season 21: Is it premiering in May 2023?

We are aware of how much the fans have been awaiting its premiere, but we have some unfortunate news to share with you! We hate to break this to our readers, but the new episodes will not return in May 2023, as CBS recently started releasing their summer lineup in which NCIS Season 21 was not mentioned, which is a bit disappointing. But they should consider the fact that the last season ended just a few days ago, which makes it way too early for it to make a comeback.

Even though this is a bit of a disheartening update, we can do some other updates that will lighten up your mood!

Firstly, we can tell that you’re on high alert right now since CBS confirmed the series renewal on February 21, 2023. So, we would like to clear up the fact that there is no doubt that the beloved police procedural series will be making its official return sometime later this year, which is assumed to be a part of the 2023–2024 broadcast season lineup, with the creators aiming for the show’s return on a 2023 fall release, with September being the likely release window just like the prior season.

Hence, there is no way that the new season will return in May 2023. We’ll just have to wait and see which direction the writers and crew take going forward, as the ongoing writer’s strike can also be a major factor in shifting the release date if the issue isn’t resolved soon.

NCIS Season 21: What can the fans expect to see in the new season?

The synopsis of the show follows: NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is more than just an action drama. With liberal doses of humor, it’s a show that focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations. From murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, these special agents investigate all crimes with Navy or Marine Corps ties.

“This season CBS is continuing its winning tradition, delivering an unparalleled combination of top returning series and new hit shows that are entertaining huge audiences on both broadcast and streaming,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “It is a testament to the stellar work being done by our best-in-class talent in front of and behind the camera that we have had yet another exceptional season, and I know we will only continue to build on this foundation of outstanding programming as we look ahead toward next fall.”

We are certain that the next season will definitely pick up elements from the final episode of NCIS Season 20, “Black Sky,” which is directed by Diana Valentine and written by Brendan Fehily and David J. North. In the episode, viewers got to see that Torres finds himself in prison as the team tries to stop an impending terror attack on U.S. soil. The season ends with a major cliffhanger, which will be the motivation to expand the plot and cover all the unanswered questions in the new season.

The main cast members who are expected to reprise their roles are as follows: Sean Murray as Timothy McGee, Wilmer Valderrama as Nick Torres, Katrina Law as Jessica Knight, Brian Dietzen as Dr. Jimmy Palmer, Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines, David McCallum as Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, Rocky Carroll as Leon Vance, Gary Cole as Alden Parker. There can be some new additions to the cast which will be disclosed once the release dates close.

The series is created by Donald P. Bellisario, and NCIS is produced by Bellisarius Productions in association with CBS Studios. Steven D. Binder, Chas. Floyd Johnson, Mark Horowitz, Mark Harmon, Scott Williams, David North, and Bellisario serve as executive producers.

NCIS Season 21: Frequently Asked Questions

Are the other NCIS series also renewed?

Yes! CBS has renewed its flagship drama series NCIS, along with NCIS: Hawai’i, for the 2023–2024 season. NCIS will return for its 21st season, along with NCIS: Hawai’i for its third season, and the respective release dates for the sibling series will be released later. On the other hand, NCIS: Los Angeles has officially concluded, as it was announced that the series would end after the fourteenth season, with the series finale airing on May 21, 2023.

How many episodes will there be?

The next season’s official episode count may be around 21 to 22 episodes with an average duration of 39 to 44 minutes, premiering on a weekly basis. The episode count might vary if the network decides to air a shorter or longer season as a part of cost-cutting or the ongoing writers’ strike. All details on the episode titles and synopses will be released later, once the release date draws near, in order to prevent spoilers.

Where to stream the series?

If you haven’t been able to keep up with the tale, then watch the earlier episodes of NCIS exclusively on CBS, depending on the user’s location, which will also later be available to watch on the official website. Law & Order, SVU, and Organized Crime are also available on Peacock, Hulu Plus, and FuboTV. All seasons are also available for renting or purchasing on Vudu or Amazon Instant Video, with a vast number of membership plans according to the preferences of the users.

Is there any teaser or trailer?

Since the release date and the state of filming haven’t been determined, the network hasn’t produced any new promotional materials for the upcoming season. The hiatus gives plenty of time for promotions to start. As a result, we’ll have to wait a while. In the meantime, fans can catch the official NCIS Season 20 finale episode promo to reflect on everything that happened.
