What danger awaits the NCIS team this season?
NCIS Season 21 finale was different for more than one reason. One, it had neatly wrapped up storylines and left viewers without a flabbergasting cliffhanger like it did in its previous seasons. Two, the producers ensured a happier ending by closing the storyline of Special Agent Nick Torres going rogue at the beginning of the season after he was arrested for the murder of Maurice Riva, the man who tortured his family. Not only this but there was a question of whether Special Agent Jessica Knight would accept her dream job of replacing Mr. Brian Mooney as Chief REACT Training Officer, thereby leaving her NCIS team behind.
Executive producer Steven D. Binder revealed to TV Insider in a recent interview that she does take the job, but is still a part of the season. With the dramatic ending to the previous season, here are a few plotlines that NCIS Season 22 will decipher.
Status of Jessica Knight and Chief Medical Examiner Jimmy Palmer’s (Brian Dietzen) relationship

The finale saw Palmer breaking up with Knight over her not informing them that she was taking the REACT job position. The confrontation left fans heartbroken over the couple’s bad timing. However, Binder offered a peak into the future of the couple in Season 22 while speaking to TV Insider. He noted that there would be a time jump where Knight is shown working in her position as the REACT officer, and Jimmy has moved on from her by getting into the dating scene again.
Binder then teases that due to a mishap at the hands of Knight as a hostage negotiator, “she and Jimmy are going to get a chance to have part two of the conversation that we didn’t see in the finale.” Furthermore, the fated lovers will meet again for Part 3 of the conversation, that will take place in Episode 4, when “World War III is starting.” We cannot fathom what Binder means by World War III but he assured us that the world will not be coming to an end after the event.
Which brings us to the mole that will be infesting the NCIS quarters.
The majority of the season will be spent discovering and destroying the mole

While agents of the Naval Criminal Investigation Agency have been busy working around the clock, wrecking their brains and bodies over cases that flood the U.S. military, there is one person who is causing issues within the team. Since the trailer revealed that an imposter is operating from within the Intelligence service, it is feasible that the entire season will focus on that, whilst derailing into massive personal events, on top of solving cases.
It is clear from the trailer that this mole is trying to stir up problems between the team members, building hostility, and planting seeds of doubt in the heads of the special agents about who from their team members is this imposter. It will become difficult to trust anyone at this rate, but Parker must keep the team glued and focused on the target, careful not to turn against each other.
As Wilmer Valderrama (who plays Torres) confirmed to People Magazine, “I think it’s not going to be your casual like, ‘Oh, your favorite team is in trouble,'” speaking about Season 22 of the show, adding, “It’s going to be more personal, more soul-shattering. There’ll be some [tragedy] this season.”
Alden Parker (Gary Cole) hallucinations on the ship
In the finale episode of Season 21, we witnessed Parker hallucinate two kids on the ship he was trapped and injured in, where one was his younger self and another was Lily. Fans were curious if the girl was a sister that we don’t know of yet, and await an explanation in the upcoming season. Binder provides a speck of information into this saying, “Parker is going to need to have to go on a little journey and discover “Who is this person? What happened? What am I seeing?” before adding, “He doesn’t know whether it’s a memory or not. it’s historically based. Let’s put it that way.”
This can indicate a past relationship with a girl named Lily. Whether it was a familial bond or otherwise will only be unveiled in Season 22.
When will it be released?
NCIS Season 22 is set to release on October 14, 2024.
Is there a trailer?
CBS just released an official trailer for Season 22 of the crime procedural drama, and we are hooked. The video, which was released on Monday, September 23rd featured a plot mainly focused on an imposter within the NCIS team, who was threatening its officers. The rest of the trailer seemed action-packed like every season of NCIS usually is.
As for Katerina Law’s character Jessica Knight, which was hanging by a thread last season, fans can breathe a sigh of relief, because she can be spotted in the trailer with the rest of her cast members. Additionally, a body ends up in Officer Vance’s office soliciting the question of a whodunnit scenario, bringing us back to the imposter posing as an NCIS team member. As Parker puts it in the trailer, “We’ve gotta stop that mole without starting a war.”
