Furthermore, as the first season ended on July 29, 2021, viewers of the series have questions about the potential renewal of the series.
After all the show has gained a fairly good reception and fan base over the course of just one season. So, it is fair to ask about the franchise’s status, as many speculated whether it would be renewed or canceled. Unfortunately, we have some bad news for you. If you were looking forward to the next chapter of Night Sky, the chance to binge-watch Night Sky Season 2 was brief as the show has been canceled by Amazon Prime Video. The series is listed among the other TV series which are abruptly canceled by the network. Here is everything we know about Night Sky Season 2’s cancellation.
Will there be a Season 2 of Night Sky?
Amazon Prime Video announced in July 2022, that the series was canceled after one season. As a result, the series has no chance of being renewed by the network, as many original series have been reported to be canceled by major streaming platforms this year.
Even though the series had a large fanbase who were eager to see more seasons in order to have a good concluding storyline that these beloved characters truly deserved it didn’t get greenlit. Sadly, Night Sky has fallen into a similar list of canceled series even if the show had the potential to get better after improving the screenplay and the character arcs.
Why did Amazon Prime Video cancel Night Sky Season 2?
According to Deadline, Launching to largely positive reviews, the series did not make a significant viewership impact while carrying sizable costs tied to its sci-fi content. But regardless of the cancellation, Night Sky already has secured its place in TV history.
Prime Video, in conjunction with Amazon Web Services, SES, and Intelsat, beamed the show’s first episode into outer space, marking the farthest distance from Earth that a TV series has been distributed and making Prime Video the first streamer to distribute its content directly into space.

Night Sky Plot
Night Sky features Irene and Franklin, a couple who years ago found a chamber that mysteriously leads to a strange, lonely planet. The story spans space and time. Since then, they have kept their secret a closely-guarded secret, but when a mysterious young man enters their lives, the Yorks’ peaceful existence is abruptly upended, and the room they believed they so thoroughly understood turns out to be much more than they could have ever imagined.
What could have been the plot of Night Sky Season 2?
As of July 7, 2022, Night Sky Season 1 has aired all 8 episodes of the series which was concluded on May 20, 2022. The final episode of the series, Compensation, was directed by Philip Martin and written by Holden Miller & Daniel C. Connolly. The official synopsis of the episode states, “Jude makes a tough decision, while Franklin and Irene reflect on recent events; Stella’s mission brings her to the Yorks.”
If the second season of the series was renewed the story would have picked up from this very moment and expanded upon to explore the character dynamics and subplots which could have been beneficial for the viewers to tune into watching the series for a long run. Moreover, these plot summaries provide viewers with a general idea of the plot, but not the complete picture that the show’s writers might have planned to be translated from the pages to the screen.
We can’t foresee what important details or surprises would have been discovered in the future seasons, or how the season would have been concluded. Sadly, the run of the series was short-lived and the fans will not be able to foresee the ways these characters could have been developed.
As a result, if the series had been renewed, which is regrettable since it did have chances to be explored more and the viewers wanted to give it an opportunity. So, if you want to recall all of the premises from the first season’s episodes. Here is a complete episode guide for viewers to explore if they miss these characters and want to watch them once again.
