One Piece Season 2 Renewal Status: Is it renewed or canceled?

As of writing this, we can confirm that the series has not been officially greenlit by the network, as it has only been a few days since the first season of One Piece was made available to binge-watch. But much to everyone’s delight, the new season has already gained critical acclaim around the world. In its debut weekend, the show’s concurrent viewership on Netflix reached number one in 84 countries, surpassing the Netflix debut records previously set by Stranger Things and Wednesday, and it has been trending on the global charting list for a while!

This is a great sign for the creators and cast, which confirms that the demand for the show among the viewers is at an all-time high and doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon, which will hopefully make it an easy decision for the show’s creators to get an early second season’s approval in the coming weeks. As the network might consider the overall reception and the reviews by critics, it can help to paint a picture of its future plans, which so far seem to be heading in a positive direction.

One Piece Season 2 Renewal Update: Will there be another season?

Recently, Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein revealed that the scripts for the second season are ready, but filming could not begin until the SAG-AFTRA strike is resolved!

Moreover, Tomorrow Studios president Becky Clements stated that once they can begin filming, they expect season two to air 12-18 months later. However, Netflix has not formally announced that the series is renewed for a second season. On renewal, Adelstein stated he suspects “we’ll hear from [Netflix] in the next week to two weeks.” Clements commented that Netflix plays it “close to the vest […]. But in our subsequent calls post-launch, we have been told that we have exceeded expectations, which is also fantastic.”

Hence, if the show is able to perform remarkably well by being on the top streaming show list around the world for more weeks, then it stands a chance of being renewed, just like many other original series whose overall story is effective enough to be conveyed in a proper manner and gets an official renewal announced within a month or two after the premiere. The decision will also come down to whether the show creators see enough reasons from plotlines to justify another season.

In conclusion, if you want to receive information on potential renewal updates, then we urge you to enable notifications on the show’s social media.

Until then, fans of this fantasy adventure television series developed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda for Netflix can continue to enjoy the new episodes and speculate about what more plotlines and character arcs might be explored and adapted right from the pages of the manga for a potential second season if it gets renewed in the near future, which isn’t something to be worried about because it will probably get approved soon, if not later.

We’ll just have to patiently wait and keep our fingers crossed!

One Piece Season 2 Release Date: If renewed, when will it premiere on Netflix?

We have observed that the gap between some shows’ first and second seasons has roughly been about a year or so, which is typical for a show of this caliber to wrap up its methodical production on schedule and not last more than a few months. Hence, as per our guess, if the series is renewed within the next few months, then we can assume that the new episodes might come back around mid-2024 or even in 2025, as the scale of this show demands time to deliver the best work!

Moreover, we should consider that there is an ongoing 2023 WGA strike along with the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which has put a halt to major work among various production houses in Hollywood until a proper resolution relating to their compensation is made. This situation has the potential to cause a delay in the commencement of production if it gets renewed, which will eventually cause uncertainties in its release if the situation doesn’t get resolved anytime soon.

Additionally, with an estimated $18 million per episode budget, the first season has been called one of  Netflix’s most costly productions, with a staggering $144 million to produce, viewing figures are already crucial in Netflix’s renewal process, but they become much more crucial for pricey series like One Piece. As a result, Netflix won’t invest a tonne of money into a show that no one is watching.

So, if you want to increase the likelihood that One Piece Season 2 will happen and continue as a franchise, it’s crucial that plenty of people tune in and watch the first season to increase the viewership count and showcase the demand for the show.

In the end, the network might also collaborate in allocating budgets and starting production on time. Hence, we urge readers to keep a closer eye on social media to get updates if the renewal announcement is confirmed. Until then, viewers may still enjoy the new episodes and make predictions about what new storylines might be explored in a potential second season if it gets renewed sometime later this year. Because right now, everything relating to the official release date is just pure speculation!

One Piece Season 2: What to expect in the new season?

After the premiere of the first season, nothing much has been disclosed about One Piece Season 2, but if the series is renewed, then the plot will continue to expand from the first season, which is as follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates as they explore the dangerous oceans, lands, and beyond in search of the “One Piece”, a fabled treasure that will make their captain, Monkey D. Luffy, “King of the Pirates.” But the Marines are on their ship’s tail, and they are not the only crew searching for the One Piece. Armed with skills and an unbreakable friendship, the Straw Hats are ready for the journey and even more ready to fight for their dreams together.

Moreover, if you stream the show, then you’ll know that the first season of One Piece covered an ambitious amount of material—tackling 100 chapters in just eight episodes. At that pace, One Piece Season 2 will most likely adapt the next arc of the story up to around Chapter 218!

According to Variety, the scripts for a potential Season Two are already ready to go. Though production is stalled due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the studio’s president, Becky Clements, revealed that more episodes could arrive just a year out from any negotiation. “Realistically, hopefully, a year away, if we move very quickly, and that is a possibility,” Clements said. “Somewhere between a year and 18 months, we could be ready for air.” Clements also shared that “in our subsequent calls post-launch, we have been told that we have exceeded expectations, which is also fantastic.” Season Two is ready to go. It may just take a fan campaign to get us there.

Lastly, as we know now, the second season’s cast has yet to be announced, as the renewal has not been approved. However, if we assume that the main cast from the first season is speculated to return are as follows: Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala. The series was created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are writers, executive producers, and showrunners, with Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements joining Oda as executive producers.

One Piece Season 2 Official Episode Count: How many will be there, and where to stream?

Once the renewal is confirmed, the upcoming season is assumed to have around 8 episodes with an average runtime of 49–63 minutes, just like the first season, which will drop at once, so you can binge it instantly! We would also like to emphasize that the episode count is currently subject to change as it can be reduced due to the ongoing 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and 2023 SAG-AFTRA, which can cause a delay in the pre-production stage of many shows due to a temporary standstill in the production of the shows due to lack of actors and writers.

When One Piece Season 2 is renewed and draws close to its release date, the series will be available exclusively on Netflix, with all the prior seasons and other series of the same genre also accessible on the streaming platform with a range of membership options depending on the various packages you choose. The basic membership starts at $9.99/month, and the standard membership starts at $15.49/month at no additional cost with any of their services. The video quality and the number of screens you can use to stream Netflix simultaneously depend on the package you choose.
