Only Murders in the Building Season 2 Plot
According to Deadline, the acclaimed series’ first season introduced viewers to Mabel Mora (Gomez), struggling Broadway director Oliver Putnam (Short), and semi-retired TV actor Charles-Haden Savage (Martin), three strangers who came to bond over their obsession with true crime. After a suspicious death in their New York apartment building, the Arconia, the neighbors decide to start their own podcast about their investigation of the death, which the police ruled a suicide.
Only Murders in the Building Season 2 picks up with the trio following the shocking death of Arconia Board President Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell), as they race to unmask her killer. However, three (unfortunate) complications ensue—the trio is publicly implicated in Bunny’s homicide, they are now the subjects of a competing podcast, and they have to deal with a bunch of New York neighbors who all think they committed murder.
The story is reported to continue from the finale episode of Only Murders in the Building Season 1 Episode 10, Open and Shut, which was released on October 19, 2021. The episode is directed by Jamie Babbit and written by John Hoffman & Rachel Burger. The official synopsis of the episode states, “The trio races toward a resolution while their own lives are put in danger.”
The viewers got to see that, Jan is revealed to be the murderer by the trio. Tim and she had a romantic relationship, but a day after their breakup, she killed him. Charles thinks Jan has poisoned him as he confronts her.
When Mabel and Oliver steal into Jan’s apartment, they discover a package marked “Jan’s Lil’ Toxins” and a poison vial inside. The three hurry to the basement and stop Jan as he tries to gas the entire building using the newly opened fires. They run across Jan again in the basement, who threatens to shoot them. After a fight, Mabel uses the emerald ring to put Jan out. Jan is detained.
Oliver and Charles receive a cryptic text message instructing them to leave the building quickly as Mabel goes to grab more champagne as the group celebrates. The series’ opening scene is reenacted as Oliver and Charles rush to Mabel, who they discover bloodied and hunched over Bunny’s lifeless body. As the Arconia’s residents and others, such as Detective Williams, Oscar, and Cinda, look on, the trio is led out of the building in handcuffs. So, the plot of the series will evolve from the finale episode and kick start the upcoming season.
