“The View” is reportedly disappointed over Oprah Winfrey’s decision to skip the show while promoting her latest adaptation of Alice Walker’s “The Color Purple” during its New York run.
According to a source speaking to Page Six, the panel show had hoped for a reunion between its star, Whoopi Goldberg, and Winfrey, both of whom starred in the acclaimed 1985 version of the film. However, it is considered a “missed opportunity” as Winfrey did not make an appearance on the program. “‘The View’ is pissed that Oprah avoided ‘The View,'” said a source to the outlet.
Oprah Winfrey did not appear on ‘The View’
In the latest adaptation of “The Color Purple,” Whoopi Goldberg shares the screen with talents such as Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, and Danielle Brooks. All of these stars, along with director Blitz Bazawule, graced the Dec. 13 episode of “The View.”
However, Oprah Winfrey, who played a key role in the film, was notably absent from the show. Despite making appearances on other programs like “CBS Mornings” with her close friend Gayle King, “The Drew Barrymore Show,” and Sherri Shepherd’s “Sherri,” Winfrey chose not to be part of “The View.”
Interestingly, Winfrey took time to discuss her dramatic weight loss with People, revealing that medication played a role in her journey.
Winfrey made up for her absence
Contrary to the usual live airing of “The View,” Page Six’s source clarified that the December 13 episode was pre-recorded on November 27, a date when Oprah Winfrey was unavailable. Despite Winfrey’s absence, Goldberg, on the other hand, “had an incredible moment with the cast during the segment. Everyone was thrilled with what aired… It was a very emotional day for Whoopi. It was a wonderful moment,” the source added.
In an effort to make amends for her absence, Winfrey recorded a special promo for the show’s “Favorite Things” segment. A spokesperson from Winfrey’s Harpo production company explained, “As one of the producers, there have been appearances Ms. Winfrey did not participate in with the cast, and was unable to be in New York when this segment was filmed right after Thanksgiving. She is overjoyed to see the cast have their moment.”
