Is Our Kind of People Season 2 canceled by Fox? Continue reading to learn more.
Our Kind of People is an American drama television series that debuted on Fox on September 21, 2021, as part of the television season 2021–22. The series, produced by Karin Gist and Wendy Calhoun, is based on Lawrence Otis Graham’s 1999 novel of the same name. The series follows the storyline of Angela Vaughn, a single mother, who is determined to recover her family’s name. However, when she uncovers a major secret, her life is entwined with that of a strong Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts family who aren’t keen on Angela and her daughter moving in.
Furthermore, when a show has the potential to provide more to the fanbase that tunes in every week when a new episode is published, the question of whether it will be renewed or canceled after only one season is hotly debated. We’ve got some terrible news for you if you were looking forward to the next Our Kind of People chapter. Unfortunately, the opportunity to binge-watch Our Kind of People Season 2 was short-lived, as the show is canceled by Fox Network. Here’s all we know about the show’s sudden cancelation.
Will there be a second season of Our Kind of People?
The Fox network announced on May 13, 2022, that Our Kind of People Season 2 would be canceled after only one season has aired. As a result, the series has no chance of being renewed by the network, as many Fox original series have been reported to be canceled, even if the series had a large fanbase who were eager to see more seasons of these shows in order to have a good concluding storyline that these beloved characters truly deserved.
On the other hand, many networks in the early months of 2022 have decided to discontinue the renewal of a vast number of tv series. Sadly, Our Kind of People has fallen into a similar list of canceled series even if the show had the potential to get better after improving the screenplay and the character arcs.
Why did Fox cancel Our Kind of People Season 2?
According to Deadline, portions of Nadine Ellis’ Dupont were filmed at the end of season one, which finished in January. Gist told Deadline that if the show had been renewed, she would have survived a shootout with an assassin who was originally targeting her father Teddy Franklin.
“What I love about that is that we spent the season bringing the family together and so, you always have to give families something to root for and a reason to bring them back,” she said. “By the end of the season, the family is cracked because of the Teddy of it all. So hopefully going forward, Leah’s injury will be the touchstone to bring the family back together.”
The other reasons are stated by the Tv Series Finale, the website states the points which highlight the cancelation of the series which shows that Our Kind of People had a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.35 million viewers in the live+same day ratings during its debut season including DVR playback through 3:00 AM. While these figures do not account for additional delayed or streamed viewing, they are a good estimate of how well a show is doing, especially when compared to other shows on the same channel.
Other economic considerations may influence a show’s destiny, although in general, higher-rated programs are renewed while lower-rated shows are canceled. The scores and dynamics differ from each season of the series which eventually decides the faith for any future installments.

What book is the series based on?
The series is based on the book by Lawrence Otis Graham an American attorney, and New York Times best-selling author. The book is titled, Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class (1999). An obsession with the right schools, families, churches, social clubs, and skin complexion. This is the world of the black upper class and the focus of the first book written about the black elite by a member of this hard-to-penetrate group.
What could have been the plot of Our Kind of People Season 2?
As of May 24, 2022, Season 1 has aired all the 12 episodes of the series which was concluded on January 25, 2022. The final episode of the series, Kiss It Up to God, was directed by Jeff Byrd and written by Karin Gist & Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts. It is estimated that the episode was viewed by 1.34 million US viewers.
The official synopsis of the episode states, “As the Illumination Ball nears, Angela and Leah team up to discover the truth about what happened between Teddy and Eve in 1984; Angela must make a choice between Tyrique and Nate.” If the second season of the series was renewed the story would have picked up from this very moment and expanded upon to explore the character dynamics and subplots which could have been beneficial for the viewers to tune into watching the series for a long run.
Moreover, these plot summaries provide viewers with a general idea of the plot, but not the complete picture that the show’s writers might have planned to be translated from the pages to the screen. As a result, we can’t foresee what important details or surprises would have been discovered in the future seasons, or how the season would have been concluded. Sadly, the run of the series was short-lived and the fans will not be able to foresee the ways these charters could have been developed.
As a result, if the series had been renewed, which is regrettable since it did have chances to be explored more and the viewers wanted to give it an opportunity.
