It has been a year since Netflix confirmed that Outer Banks would return for season 3; a year since the fans rejoiced at the promised arrival of Pogues. But after that, why is Netflix radio silent over the show’s premiere? With 2022 drawing to its end, the fans are eagerly anticipating for the show to hit the Netflix library anytime soon in 2023.
According to Netflix Life, “Production ended in August 2022. The series is now in the post-production stage.”
Here are all the latest updates we know so far about Outer Banks season 3.
Outer Banks Season 3 Release Date
At the time of writing, Netflix has not confirmed the exact release date for Outer Banks season 3. However, we do know that the season will premiere in 2023, hopefully in the early part of the year, since, as mentioned previously, the show wrapped filming in August 2022 and ever since, it has been in the post-production stage. Netflix Life hints towards a February 2023 release date.
In addition to this, there is more exciting news waiting for you. Digital Spy reports that there are plans for making more than three seasons of the series. According to the site, the plan is to make four or five seasons, but Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed anything.
What can we expect to happen in Outer Banks Season 3?
*Spoiler alert*
Since Netflix hasn’t provided any official plotline, we’ll side with our previous assumption:
The season 2 finale left off on a very deserted note. While the war between the Camerons and Pogues is expected to continue in the third season as well, Pope’s warning, “It’s not over”, heightens the thrills of the fans that can only achieve its fruition in the third season. After being sundered on the island, season 2 left the viewers with the revelation that John B’s dad is alive. This raises a plethora of questions as to how and why Big John is back and what does he intend to do?
In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, this is what John Pate has to say concerning Big John:
“John B’s relationship with his dad is a huge theme and having his dad back around and eventually they’re going to meet back up and John B has to reconcile his idealized version of his dead dad with the reality of his alive dad. It gives us a lot of thematic father-son stuff to work with.”
On a more romantic front, actor Madelyn Cline hinted to ET about season 3 delving more into their marriage. Cline said:
“It’d be really fun in season 3, if we get one, to see them actually start to truly get to know each other in a very real sense. They’re married, but they actually kind of don’t know a whole lot about each other. I feel like that would be really fun. They’ve obviously been through a lot together.”
In addition, Chase Stokes, in conversation with Elite Daily, teased about a “vibe shift” in season 3. Stokes said, “The writers really like to keep us on our toes, and I think that creates performances that catch you in the moment … I’ve no idea what’s going on past what we’ve shot in Barbados.”
He further added, “I think a lot of loose ends are going to get tied up. A lot of questions will be answered. And per usual, these kids are going to get put through the wringer.”
