Outer Range Season 2 Release Date: When will the new season release on Prime Video?

Drumroll, please! Much to the amusement of fans, the beloved science fiction neo-Western streaming television series, which was created by Brian Watkins and stars Josh Brolin and Imogen Poots, was officially renewed in October 2022 for a second season by Prime Video, with Charles Murray taking over Watkins’ position as showrunner. Since the renewal was confirmed, it’s been a while, and die-hard fans have been wondering when the series will return to the streaming platform, with many guessing that September 2023 might be the ideal release window.

If you are wondering the same thing, then we can assure you that you have reached the right place to know all the answers because we hate to burst your bubble as it is essential to stop any more rumors from spreading on social media, but sadly, the prospective premiere date of Outer Range Season 2 has yet to be acknowledged, and the production status is neither here nor there. Hence, it clears out the air that the next season will not be a part of the fall streaming schedule on Prime Video and will not be released in the month of September 2023!

But if we have to predict the potential release date, it might happen sometime around early to mid-2024 as a midseason premiere, depending upon the current status of the ongoing dual strikes, which include the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that have been going on for a while and are reported to last until October 2023! So, if the network decides that the next season will follow the prior pattern, then it will follow the same steps as its predecessor. Hence, the fans should be patient and catch up with the prior season to recap the events that have transpired and will lead to the new season.

In the meantime, check out the official renewal confirmation post as shared among followers, quoting, “At least one mystery is revealed.” It’s official: #OuterRange is coming back for Season 2.” Take a look at the post below:

Outer Range Season 2 Plot: What to expect?

Nothing has been officially confirmed about the plot of the second season, but the series is expected to expand further by following the official premise, which is as follows: “Royal Abbott is a Wyoming rancher who is fighting for his land and family. He discovers a mysterious black void in the pasture after the arrival of Autumn, a drifter with a connection to Abbott’s ranch. While the Abbott family copes with the disappearance of their daughter-in-law Rebecca, they are pushed further to the brink when a rival family, the Tillersons, tries to take over their land.”

In addition to this, the next season is expected to continue the plot further by the final episode, “The West,” of the first season, which was directed by Lawrence Trilling and written by Brian Watkins. In the episode, the viewers get to see that Autumn waits for her money to be transferred to the bank, and she gets into a heated argument with Maria. At the rodeo, Rhett is thrown off the bull he is riding and injures his shoulder. Autumn calls Amy’s phone and asks for Royal. She tells him he can find her in town, and he leaves to confront her.

Rhett doesn’t give up and wants to ride the final round. He wins, and he and Maria reconcile. Amy wanders into the parking lot and sees her mother, Rebecca. She tells Amy to come with her, and the two of them leave. Cecelia realizes Amy is missing and searches for her. Meanwhile, Joy sees thousands of bison stampeding across the fields and several Native Americans hunting them. Royal confronts Autumn in town, and she and Billy attempt to kill him, resulting in a gunfight while they drive.

Luke digs a hole in the ground, thinking he will find what will make him rich. Oil starts coming out of the ground, but it transforms into the swirling mist of the hole, and stampeding bison emerge. They trample Luke and continue to stampede. Royal manages to kill Billy while they are still driving, and Billy’s truck crashes. Autumn is ejected from the truck, and Royal goes to finish her off. Before he can, the bison stampede through the area. Royal takes cover under the truck, but Autumn is trampled.

Royal checks on her after the bison leaves and discovers that she has a scar on her head in the same place where Amy was hit with the glass shard, revealing that she is actually Amy from the future. He takes her home and places Amy on her bed. He finds Cecelia sitting at the kitchen table Amy had set for the entire family. Royal confesses his past to Cecelia and tells her that he just wants his family back. Cecelia says their family is gone, even Amy. Royal shakes his head and says, “No, she’s not.”

Outer Range Season 2 Potential Spoilers: What has been revealed?

Earlier this year, while on location for Outer Range, the one and only Brolin was photographed in his birthday suit while relaxing between takes on the second season. He also teased about what the fans can expect from the series, which is now being run by Charles Murray (Sons of Anarchy, Luke Cage), who took over for creator Brian Watkins in October when the series was renewed for a second season last year in October 2022.

“Prepping for a scene for “Outer Range” Season 2,” Brolin wrote on his Instagram page. “We are taking things in a different direction now. It’s a shifting world and we have to be sensitive to all. Power of example is everything, so examples we are. We aren’t supposed to post photos from the show but this isn’t really during the show, but rather lunch outside in the beautiful Santa Fe desert. Thank you @brianbowensmith for documenting our most private moments on the set.”

Outer Range Season 2 Official Episode Count: How many will be there, and where to stream?

The next season is expected to be consistent with the official episode count and include at least 8 episodes with a minimum runtime of approximately 43–62 minutes that might drop at the same time, just like the first season on the streaming platform. Even though everything relating to the official episode count is still conjecture, there is a big chance that the creators can also increase the number if they want to expand further on the series and make a supersized season, which will be confirmed by the network later as the release date draws near.

Moreover, the first two episodes are expected to be released on the same day, followed by new episodes every week until the season ends. When released, Outer Range Season 2, along with the first season, will be accessible exclusively on Prime Video. You may subscribe to Prime Video as a stand-alone streaming subscription. So, it is time for you to renew your membership plans, stream the series, and explore another genre of TV series and movies from the massive catalog that the streaming service offers to its members.

Outer Range Season 2 Official Trailer: Has it been released?

No, the network hasn’t released any new teasers for Outer Range Season 2, as the filming of the second season hasn’t even concluded yet, leaving a lot of time for the official promotional tour to begin!

In the meantime, we urge viewers to stream all the prior episodes of the first season, which followed Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. A thrilling fable with hints of wry humor and supernatural mystery, Outer Range examines how we grapple with the unknown. At the onset of the series, the Abbotts are coping with the disappearance of their daughter-in-law, Rebecca.

They are pushed further to the brink when the Tillersons (the gaudy owners of the neighboring profit-driven ranch) make a play for their land. An untimely death in the community sets off a chain of tension-filled events, and seemingly small-town, soil-bound troubles come to a head with the arrival of a mysterious black void in the Abbotts’ west pasture. Wild revelations unfold as Royal fights to protect his family; through his eyes, we begin to see how time contains secrets held in the past and unsettling mysteries foreshadowed.

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 80% of 51 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.8/10. The website’s consensus reads, “Outer Range’s plethora of subplots threaten to get sucked into a wormhole of ponderousness, but at least this sci-fi Western is anything but plain.” Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 60 out of 100 based on 23 critics, indicating “mixed or average reviews.”
