Often touted as one of the most watched and popular fantasy series, Outlander has frequently appeared in Netflix’s top 10’s. With that said, it seems that nothing can top Outlander and no other couple could Jamie and Claire. Between March 6 and May 1, 2022, all eight episodes of Outlander season 6 were aired on its official network, Starz Original. Distributed by Sony Pictures Television, season 6 has still not arrived on Netflix as of now. And we hate to break the sad news to you, but it won’t arrive in January 2023 too.
According to Outlander’s fan page, “The sixth season of “Outlander” sees a continuation of Claire and Jamie’s fight to protect those they love, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America.”
The series features Sam Heughan in the role of handsome and macho Highlander Jamie, Caitriona Balfe as his beautiful and time-traveling wife Claire, Sophie Skelton as their daughter Brianna, Richard Rankin as her husband Roger, John Bell as Ian, and more.
For all those who have been madly anticipating Outlander Season 6 to hit the Netflix library, tie your seatbelts in because filming for season 7 has already started. Continue reading the article to get the latest updates about season 6 of Outlander.
Outlander Season 6 Netflix Release Date
Concerning the release updates about Outlander, Netflix Life writes:
“The typical pattern we’ve seen in the past is that a new season of Outlander drops two years following that season finale on the show’s parent company, Starz.”
If we take into consideration the example of season 5, whose final episode aired on May 10, 2020, on the original network, followed by its arrival on Netflix two years later on May 10, 2022, we expect season 6 to hit the Netflix library sometime in May 2024, since it aired on May 1, 2022, on Starz.
Certain regions of Netflix have already been streaming weekly episodes of Outlander season 6. Since the new season has finished airing all its episodes, all of them are available for streaming on Netflix as of now. These regions include:
- Belgium
- France
- India
- Malaysia
- Japan
- Hong Kong
- Poland
- South Korea
- Singapore
Apart from the above-mentioned regions, other regions will also receive Outlander season 6 but it will not be branded as a Netflix Original. In this case, a local distributor will air the show. The regions which are not receiving weekly episodes of Outlander season 6 include:
- The Netherlands
- Australia
- Argentina
- Brazil
- South Africa
- Mexico
- Sweden
More often than not, new seasons of this show in the above-mentioned regions will presumably come a year after the series premiere. For instance, Outlander season 5 began airing on the television network on February 16th, 2020. On February 17, 2021, it landed on Netflix Australia.
If the same scenario will be followed with season 6 as well, you can expect the new installment to land on the above-mentioned regions of Netflix on March 6th, 2023.
Apart from all these regions, Netflix UK is one of the notable regions which is not streaming Outlander in any capacity. According to What’s on Netflix, “That’s because early on the streaming rights were sold to Amazon Prime Video where the show continue to stream as of the time of publishing.”
What can we expect to happen in Outlander Season 6?
Outlander Season six is reportedly based on Diana Gabaldon’s sixth book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. The newly released synopsis of Outlander season six reads (courtesy of Digital Spy):
“The sixth season of Outlander sees a continuation of Claire and Jamie’s fight to protect those they love, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America.”
“The Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a society which – as Claire knows all too well – is unwittingly marching towards Revolution. Against this backdrop, which heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser’s Ridge. They must now defend this home – established on land granted to them by the Crown – not only from external forces but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care.”
“For the Frasers and their immediate family, ‘home’ is more than simply a site in which they live, it is the place where they are laying the foundations for the rest of their lives. If season four asked ‘What is home?’ and season five asked, ‘What are you willing to do to protect your home?’ then season six explores what happens when there is disharmony and division among the inhabitants of the home you’ve created: when you become an outsider or an ‘outlander,’ so to speak, marginalized and rejected in your own home.”
