We know that fans of the much popular Outlander series are already impatient for the release of season 7. More so since the series’ streaming service STARZ has already announced that Outlander season 7 will release sometime in summer 2023 and will consist of 16 episodes. But looking ahead, we understand that many fans are already wondering whether Season 7 is going to be the last of the series or if there is a possibility that we may get to see Outlander season 8. Guess we already have some good news regarding the renewal of the eighth season.
Outlander is a historical drama series based on the international best-selling Outlander books series, by Diana Gabaldon. Developed by Ronald D. Moore, the show premiered in 2014 on STARZ and traces the story of Claire (Caitriona Balfe), a World War 2 nurse who finds herself mysteriously transported back in time and starts a new life in 1743 Scotland. There she falls in love and marries a handsome Highland warrior named Jamie Fraser, thereby getting involved in Jacobite rising.
The final season of Outlander will be based on Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, which is the eighth book in Gabaldon’s series.
Is Outlander renewed for season 8?
Yes, and that’s the good news. It’s finally official that the science fiction series Outlander has now been renewed for an eighth season by STARZ. But there’s bad news too. The premium cable outlet has also announced that season 8 will be the last of the Outlander series.
This news comes even as we await the planned summer release for season seven of the time-traveling historical romance of our beloved Claire and Jamie.
Creating a benchmark of its own, the series will be concluding as the longest-running original in the history of STARZ.
Last of the series but not the end of Frasers
Yes, you heard that right. Though Outlander season 8 being the last of the series might have disappointed many but all seems to be not over yet.
Along with announcing the renewal of the final season, STARZ has also given a green light to a prequel series of Outlander, which is titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood. We hear the prequel is going to trace the love story of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie. Matthew B. Roberts will remain the showrunner for this as well just like the main series. Gabaldon will be the consulting producer.
Kathryn Busby, president – original programming at STARZ said, “For nearly a decade Outlander has won the hearts of audiences worldwide and we’re pleased to bring Claire and Jamie’s epic love story to a proper conclusion.” She further added, “But before we close this chapter there is plenty of their passionate story to tell over the course of 26 new episodes and even more to explore of this dynamic world and its origin story. We’re thrilled to continue to partner with Matthew, Maril, and Ronald and can’t wait to see where their alluring storytelling takes us next.”
How many episodes will be there in Outlander season 8?
STARZ has announced that Outlander season 8, which will also be its last, is going to have a total of 10 episodes, which will be following an extended Season 7 having 16 episodes. Season 7 is currently in production in Scotland.
What we have seen so far in Outlander?
In season 6 of Outlander, we saw Claire and Jamie struggling to protect their loved ones, as they try to set up a life in colonial America. Set against the backdrop of an impending revolution, both of them have together built a home at Fraser’s Ridge, which they will now need to protect. Season 7 is expected to take their story forward as we’d see Claire and Jamie making a tough choice of where and how they want to live their lives as they go on navigating the New World.
Who are the cast members of Outlander?
The much-loved drama series stars Caitríona Balfe as Claire Fraser, Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, Sophie Skelton as Brianna MacKenzie, Richard Rankin as Roger MacKenzie, John Bell as Young Ian, David Berry as Lord John Grey, Caitlin O’Ryan as Lizzie Beardsley, Paul Gorman as Josiah Beardsley and Keziah Beardsley.
