As we know, the first season on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, season one, holds an approval rating of 77% based on 81 reviews, with an average rating of 7.4/10.

In July 2020, HBO renewed the series for a second season. In April 2021, it was announced that Jones and Fitzgerald had left the series and were replaced as showrunners by Jack Amiel and Michael Begler. After months of waiting, it is now confirmed that the second season is set to premiere in February 2023. Moreover, Perry Mason star Matthew Rhys, the actor, indicated that the second season of the show would be filmed during the winter season.

Perry Mason Season 2 Plot
The official synopsis of the second season states, “Months after the end of the Dodson trial, Perry’s moved off the farm, ditched the milk truck, he’s even traded his leather jacket for a pressed suit. It’s the worst year of the Depression, and Perry and Della have set the firm on a safer path pursuing civil cases instead of the tumultuous work that criminal cases entail. Unfortunately, there isn’t much work for Paul in wills and contracts, so he’s been out on his own. An open-and-closed case overtakes the city of Los Angeles, and Perry’s pursuit of justice reveals that not everything is always as it seems.”

Perry Mason Season 1: What happened in the final episode?
The final episode, “Chapter 8,” was released on August 9, 2020. The episode is directed by Tim Van Patten and written by Rolin Jones & Ron Fitzgerald & Kevin J. Hynes. It is viewed by 1.115 million US viewers. In the episode, the viewers got to see that Burger advises Mason to rest his case and rely on Hicks’ testimony as Mason considers putting Ennis on the stand. Mason agrees when Street suggests putting Emily on the stand.
During cross-examination, however, Barnes is able to persuade Emily to accept at least partial responsibility for Charlie’s death. Mason concludes with a passionate statement, blaming Barnes for attacking Emily’s character rather than pursuing the truth. The jury becomes deadlocked after five days of deliberation, and the judge declares a mistrial. Barnes vows to retry the case and attacks a reporter who mentions the failure of the trial’s impact on his mayoral campaign.
Strickland meets with a juror he paid off, who reveals that two other jurors legitimately voted not guilty. The case will not be retried. Despite the baby’s differences in appearance from Charlie, Emily accepts the baby as Charlie and joins Birdy’s traveling, miracle-based church. Strickland leaves Mason to work for Burger, who is now investigating the church’s financial misdeeds. Drake resigns from the police force, and Holcomb murders Ennis.
Mason takes over Jonathan’s office, hiring Street as his secretary (and eventual partner) and Drake as his lead detective. Mason finds Alice, who went missing after the Easter Sunday “resurrection” and now works as a waitress in a coastal town, and they bond over their loneliness. Mason lets the black thread taken from Charlie’s eye float away in the wind at the ocean’s edge.
