Furthermore, when a series has the potential to give more and a fandom that tunes in every week when a new episode is released, the topic of whether the series will be renewed or canceled after only one season is heavily disputed. So, if you were looking forward to the next Pivoting chapter, we’ve got some bad news for you. Unfortunately, the chance to binge-watch Pivoting Season 2 was short-lived, since the show was ultimately canceled by Fox Network. Here’s all we know about the show’s unexpected cancellation.

Will there be Season 2 of Pivoting?

On May 13, 2022, the Fox Network announced that Pivoting Season 2 would be canceled after only one season. As a result, the series has no possibility of being renewed by the network, as many shows have been canceled across the streaming platforms this year by various networks.

On the other hand, even though this series had a significant fanbase eager to see additional seasons of these shows in order to have a good finishing plot that these cherished characters actually deserved. Sadly, this is not the case for Pivoting even after having such a good run for the network.

Why did Fox cancel Pivoting Season 2?

According to Deadline, Pivoting was a hit with Fox, who renewed it on the condition that it move from Los Angeles to Vancouver to save money, which was impossible because the stars couldn’t uproot their families.

A second attempt by the network to renew the series by requesting a significant reduction in the licensing fee was reportedly failed since the studio was unable to find a method to do it.

Other sources claim that Fox expressed an interest in renewing Pivoting but did not make a strong effort to do so. While Hulu money has aided Pivoting, it was rumored that the network was looking ahead, since the deal is slated to end next year and the future of the partnership is unknown.

In addition to this, Pivoting’s demise underscores the broadcast model’s limitations, as well as the strain that dropping linear ratings, are putting on renewal negotiations, particularly with outside studios. Fox and Warner Bros. TV were able to reach an agreement. These are some of the reported reasons why the series was not able to renew for another season.

Look at some of the fan’s reactions to the cancelation

What is Pivoting about?

According to the official description released by Fox network, the series stars Eliza Coupe, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Maggie Q, and set in a small, middle-class town in Long Island, NY, single-camera comedy PIVOTING follows three women – and close-knit childhood friends – as they cope with the death of the fourth member of their group. When faced with the reality that life is short, these women pivot, and alter their current paths, by way of a series of impulsive, ill-advised, and self-indulgent decisions. These pivots will strengthen their bond and prove it’s never too late to screw up your life in the pursuit of happiness.

What could have been the plot of Pivoting Season 2?

The 10-episode season of Pivoting aired its finale episode, Coleen in a Box, on March 10, 2022. The episode is directed by Tristram Shapeero and written by Liz Astrof. The episode was estimated to be watched by 0.96 million US viewers. The official synopsis of the episode states, “Amy, Sarah, and Jodie each reach different crossroads and decide to put their issues on the backburner to celebrate Coleen’s birthday; the ladies bring Coleen’s ashes out for a girl’s night that ends in turmoil.”

*Spoilers Ahead*

In the episode, viewers see that Amy gets stuck beneath a car racing to save her kids and only gets out after begging Colleen for assistance, and Sarah rushes in to aid when a customer has a heart attack at the grocery store. Amy is offered a new show that would send her back to work full-time, and Jodie ditches Dan by faking a headache, instead preferring to cheer Matt on at a weight competition, to continue this trend of playing up the decisions people have made during the season.

Brian deserves to find love again, and Sarah is bisexual. Later in the episode, it is seen that they vow to never speak about the incident again, but Brian soon breaks that pledge over drinks with Henry and his friends. The season finishes with Jodie’s marriage in jeopardy, but her affair is arguably still hidden, and Amy is still undecided about whether or not to pursue a new job.

Speaking of cliffhangers, the very final scene shows the ladies discovering they left Colleen’s ashes in a bar, which the viewers found to be both frustrating and hilarious. If the show had been renewed for a second season, it would have picked up immediately where the first season’s finale episode left off. The plot for Pivoting Season 2 could have been explored and reflected the viewers with a general idea leading to the next season and character arcs.

As a result, we can’t predict what important details or shocks would have occurred in Pivoting Season 2, how the season would have expanded, or what storyline would have emerged in future episodes if the series had been renewed, which is unfortunate because fans won’t be able to watch and explore more to say a proper goodbye to these beloved characters if the series would have given a chance by taking the consideration of the viewers.

Pivoting Cast

The cast descriptions provided by Fox network state the following:

Eliza Coupe as Amy — the fearless producer of a local cooking show, managing many employees comes easily. Yet, when it comes to caring for her own children, a seven-year-old boy, Luke, and an 18-month-old girl – she’s absolutely terrified. Despite her lack of maternal instincts, her husband, Henry, a contractor who never loses his cool, perfectly counter-balances Amy in all of her flaws. Her pivot is to be a more active, present mother.

Ginnifer Goodwin as Jodie — a stay-at-home mom of three in a loveless marriage. Her husband is a controlling, finance-obsessed jerk, but Jodie has never even considered that the grass might be greener anywhere else. When she does, her pivot means getting in shape…and maybe more with her hot 27-year-old trainer, Matt, who gives her the attention and excitement she didn’t realize she had been craving for years.

Maggie Q as Sarah, is a successful doctor — an M.D. and Ph.D., as she will readily let anyone know. For Sarah, the loss of their friend is compounded by the recent divorce from her wife. After a life filled with stress, Sarah is sent into a tailspin that launches her pivot to a simpler, and thus happier life — working as a grocery store employee.

Other cast members of the series include the following:

  • Tommy Dewey as Henry, Amy’s husband
  • Robert Baker as Dan, Jodie’s husband
  • Colton Dunn as Brian, Coleen’s husband who is now a widower
  • JT Neal as Matt, Jodie’s trainer
  • Marcello Reyes as Luke, Amy’s 7-year old son
