The famous quintet is back! Queer Eye season 7 premiered on Netflix US on Friday, May 12, 2023, at midnight PT/3:00 a.m. ET. This time our Fab Five has headed to New Orleans. Journeying from being a part of the fraternity house that constituted “lost boys” to a sports super fan, Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, and Jonathan Van Ness helm a whole new cast who are in dire need of a makeover and a fresh start.
Touted as one of Netflix’s most wholesome original series, it does not come off as a surprise that the show was renewed for renewed till season 7. In fact, we wouldn’t complain if the show continued for several more seasons and we believe that Netflix also wouldn’t mind considering that it garnered a top-rated position, is pleasing to all audiences and no matter what, it shares a special bond with Netflix and its calendars.
For those unversed, Queer Eye has been on air since 2018 and ever since, it has featured over 60 people. In fact, the show even inspired a spin-off set in Japan, including several separate adaptations in Germany and Brazil with each featuring their separate teams for makeover artists.
In conversation with Insider, France confessed none of them expected that the show would expand to such a height. He said, “I thought that Queer Eye wasn’t going to be successful and that it would be a flop — we’d do one season, then it’d be over.”
Although the show has risen to be one of Netflix’s longest-running shows, the official streamer has not announced whether there will be a Queer Eye season 8. We have gathered all the information regarding the potential eighth season of Queer Eye.
Is Queer Eye renewed for season 8?
At the time of writing this article, Netflix has not renewed the show for an eight-season. Considering that the seventh season of Queer Eye just released, expecting a season renewal in a few days would be a little far-fetched. However, in a conversation with E! in July 2022, Berk confessed that are finding it already hard to gather all the five stars in one place at one time for filming the seventh season, owing to the stars’ previous commitments.
In addition to disclosing that his department had to repair two homes in less than two weeks, he said, “We’ve been condensed to doing about an episode-and-a-half a week right now.” The stars would normally film for over five days but for the seventh season, they were only present for “three to four days.”
Will this hamper the fate of Queer Eye?
When can we expect Queer Eye season 8 to premiere?
Considering that the quintet follows a tight schedule individually as mentioned previously, it’s difficult to assume the release schedule of an eighth season. However, an attempt to guess can only be made when Netflix renews the show for season 8.
If the streaming giant does renew Queer Eye for season 8, we can expect the show to release sometime in late 2023 or early 2024, considering that early seasons debuted with a four to eight-month gap between them. For instance, season 3 premiered in March 2019, while season 4 was released in July 2019. Season One in February 2019, and Season 2 premiered in June 2018. Be that as it may, there is a year-and-a-half gap between season 6 and season 7, which destabilizes our assumption.
Considering our aforementioned judgements, we don’t expect to watch the eighth season of Queer Eye, if it is renewed before the summer of 2024.
What is the location for Queer Eye season 8?
The previous seasons of Queer Eye were set in the backdrop of the following places:
- Season 1 (2018) – Georgia, United States
- Season 2 (2018) – Georgia, United States
- 2018 Special – Yass, New South Wales
- Season 3 (2019) – Kansas + Missouri, United States
- Season 4 (2019) – Illinois + Kansas, Missouri, United States
- 2019 Special – Tokyo, Japan
- Season 5 (2020) – New Jersey + Pennsylvania, United States
- 2021 Special – Pennsylvania, United States
- Season 6 (2021) – Texas, United States
The seventh and the latest season of Queer Eye, as mentioned previously, is located in New Orleans, Louisiana, covering a good deal of the South, Midwest, and East Coast of the United States. For the eighth season, however, not much confirmation has been received.
Be that as it may, in conversation with E! Berk mentioned that they are finally done with shooting in the summer in the South. He said, “Our list definitely consists of any place that does not get above 60 degrees.” He added that they would “love to go to the UK,” pointing to another possible spin-off like the Japan series in the future.
He further expressed his interest in travelling to a different coast, saying, “We would love to hit the Pacific Northwest. We haven’t really filmed at all in the West. We’ve been in the south and the east for seven, if you count Japan, eight seasons now. So yeah, we’d love to go out west.”
