The unfortunate deaths of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner have led to a series of surprising revelations and claims that make their case even more complex.
In the recent turn of events, Nick Reiner has been reportedly taken into custody on a murder charge following the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, according to PEOPLE.
On Sunday, December 14, Rob and Michele were murdered in their Los Angeles home. Per PEOPLE, their dead bodies were first found by their daughter, Romy. Following their brutal murders, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department reported that Nick was taken into custody and is being held on $4 million bail. Elsewhere in a press conference on Monday Morning, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell revealed that Nick had been booked on a murder charge.
Previously, reports explicated that Nick was being questioned by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division following his parents’ murder. The Los Angeles Fire Department revealed that it was called to provide medical aid to a home around 3:30 p.m. Later, they subsequently identified the victims as Rob and Michele.
The couple first met on the sets of When Harry Met Sally, which was directed by Rob, and was released in 1989, the same year in which they tied the knot. They had three children, including Nick, who had previously opened up about his tribulations dealing with addiction and homelessness that began in his teens.
In addition to When Harry Met Sally, Reiner is known for directing classic films in diverse genres, including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, Misery, and A Few Good Men. Consequently, the Hollywood industry is completely flabbergasted upon hearing the news. According to the BBC, Spinal Tap star Christoper Guest and his wife Jamie Lee Curtis shared they were “numb”, while former President Barack Obama said he and his wife Michelle were “heartbroken.”
Additionally, President Donald Trump expressed his grief about the “very sad” incident in California, while also taking a swipe at Reiner, who was his vocal critic.
Contributing to the outpour of tributes, author Stephen King, whose books were the foundation for Misery and Stand By Me, said he was “horrified and saddened” by the news. He wrote, “Wonderful friend, political ally, and brilliant filmmaker (including 2 of mine). Rest in peace, Rob. You always stood by me.”

While Sir Elton John, who appeared in this year’s Spinal Tap sequel, said, “I am in disbelief at today’s news of Rob and Michele’, director Ron Howard praised Reiner for being a “superlative filmmaker, a supportive colleague and at all times a dedicated citizen.”
John had also acknowledged the couple, calling them the “most beautiful people I’d ever met” and adding that “they deserved better.”
Stand By Me actor Corey Feldman said he was completely “shocked & saddened, but I #love u Rob! U will be 4ever missed!”
Meanwhile, Frozen actor Josh Gad called Reiner “one of the greatest directors of our time”, adding, “Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle were two of the most kind and caring souls you could ever imagine. He cared so much for those who had no voices.”
According to the BBC, a family spokesperson confirmed the couple’s death in a statement to US media, which read:
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
Rob Reiner was the son of legendary comedian Carl Reiner. He achieved his breakthrough in Hollywood through the legendary sitcom All in the Family.
