Sanditon Season 3: What to expect in the final season?
The MASTERPIECE title is inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel and airs on PBS. An eager fiancé in tow, Charlotte returns to a now thriving Sanditon. It’s Georgiana’s 21st birthday, and while a lavish party awaits, an awkward reunion with Colbourne raises old feelings and new questions. It’s not all celebration for Georgiana, who is called on to meet a startling new challenge but finds support from unlikely sources. Through it all, Charlotte and Georgiana bond over their dilemmas, as well as their resolve to forge their own destinies.
According to the press release, “In Sanditon Season 3, the story continues with our high-spirited heroine, Charlotte Heywood, and her friend Georgiana Lambe. What adventures, scandals, intrigue, and above all else – romance – await our favorite characters?”
“We’re sad to take leave of this marvelous series, which has all the wit and joy expected of a Jane Austen-inspired drama,” said Susanne Simpson, Executive Producer of MASTERPIECE. “We know viewers will be on the edge of their seats as the final pieces fall into place.”
The seaside resort of Sanditon boasts some familiar faces in Season 3 including Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris), heiress Georgiana Lambe (Crystal Clarke, Empire of Light), Heywood’s fiancé Ralph Starling (Cal Brigden, Summer of Rockets), and the mysterious Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes, The Crown). Also back are Colbourne’s tomboyish young daughter, Leonora (Flora Mitchell), and his rebellious niece, Augusta (Eloise Webb, The Queen’s Gambit), who falls for a questionable admirer.
Additionally, the tireless Parker family returns-Tom (Kris Marshall, Death in Paradise), wife Mary (Kate Ashfield, A Confession), and brother Arthur (Turlough Convery, Les Misérables) as well as the town’s resident financier Lady Denham (Anne Reid, Last Tango in Halifax) and Edward (Jack Fox, Cheaters), her double-dealing nephew. Lady Susan (Sophie Winkleman, The Chronicles of Narnia) also makes a high-society return to Sanditon.
Some newcomers bring with them new and intriguing romantic possibilities. Lady Montrose (Emma Fielding, Cranford) is determined to snare matches for her grown children: Lydia (Alice Orr-Ewing, The Theory of Everything) and Lord Henry Montrose (Edward Davis, Emma). Rowleigh Pryce, (James Bolam, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner) a crusty investor, shares an intriguing past with a Sanditon resident, and Samuel Colbourne, (Liam Garrigan, The Pillars of the Earth) is a London attorney and eligible bachelor.
