Selena Gomez got overwhelmed by the love she’s receiving for her work!
At the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, the actress and singer was deeply touched when her latest film, “Emilia Perez,” received a standing ovation lasting 9 minutes. This remarkable moment set a record for the longest applause for any movie premiere at this year’s festival in France. The moment has been doing rounds on the internet since Variety shared a video of the same.

“Emilia Pérez” is a 2024 musical crime comedy film, directed by Jacques Audiard where Karla Sofía Gascón takes on the title role, supported by Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, and Édgar Ramírez in significant roles. Camille contributes original songs, while Clément Ducol provides the original score. The choreography is masterfully crafted by Damien Jalet.
Expressing her excitement for “Emilia Perez,” Gomez shared with Variety at the festival that she was captivated by the script from the moment she read it, saying, “It was captivating, it was heartbreaking, it was really moving to me.” She further talked about how much she enjoyed singing in the film by telling the outlet, “I had a blast and I love the songs. I think they’re really beautiful.”
Coming to the outfit, Gomez graced the Saturday night event wearing a stunning black velvet gown with an elegant, draped white satin neckline. The look was accessorized by a diamond collar necklace, matching earrings and rings, with a simple red manicure. For hair, she opted for a neatly tied high ponytail, with face-framing pieces.
The following day, during the photocall and press conference for the film, the “Wolves” singer stunned in a red fit and flare midi dress, with rose detailing. She matched her nail paint and footwear with her dress, wearing beautiful red heels and accessorizing the look with diamond earrings and rings. The singer kept her hair down in loose beach waves.
It’s been a few years since Gomez has prioritized acting over her singing career. Starring in the Hulu comedy series “Only Murders in the Building,” she’s gearing up for the return of its fourth season in August. Additionally, she’s slated for a cameo appearance in the “Wizard of Waverly Place” spinoff series, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” which she’s also involved in producing. Talking about the big screen, her next project is a biopic of Linda Ronstadt, where she’ll be playing the titular role. At Cannes, Gomez revealed to Variety that she plans to “take a little bit of a break” before diving into the production of the project.
Now coming to her music career, Gomez shared on the “SmartLess” podcast earlier this year that she’ll probably make just one more album. “I am going to want to chill because I’m tired. I wanted to be an actress, I never really intended on being a singer full time but apparently that hobby turned into something else. I don’t think I’m the best singer, but I do know how to tell stories and I love being able to make songs,” she said.
