Shadow and Bone is an American fantasy series based on the two series books of the Grishaverse by Israeli-American author Leigh Bardugo. The first season of the show dropped in April 2021 on Netflix. It was well-received by both audience and critics, with a total viewership of more than 55 million households in its first 28 days.

The plot is set in a war-torn world where the Shadow Fold, a stretch of everlasting darkness that separates East and West Ravka and is home to flying carnivorous creatures known as Volcra. 

The interesting story and popularity of the show led to its renewal in June 2021.

Shadow and Bone Season 2 Release Date

No particular release date has been announced yet. But, the production of the show began in January 2022 and it is expected to be released anytime between late 2022 to early 2023. 

Shadow and Bone Season 2 Cast

Almost the entire cast from Shadow and Bone Season 1 is expected to return for the second installment of the show. This means Jessie Mei Li will be seen as Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Amita Suman as Inej, Kit Young as Jesper Fahey, Ben Barnes as General Kirigan, Calahan Skogman as Matthias Helvar, Danielle Galligan as Nina Zenik, and Daisy Head as Genya Safin.

In the upcoming season, we will be introduced to quite a few new faces.

Patrick Gibson will be playing Nikolai Lantsov, a prince with an alter ego named Sturmhond. He recruits a crew of soldiers to help Ravka.

Anna Leong Brophy will play Tamar Kir-Bataar, A Grisha Heartrender (ability to manipulate bodies), and carries two Axes. Is the twin sister of Tolya (listed below) and is an LGBTQ character. 

Lewis Tan will play Tolya Yul-Bataar, a mercenary in Sturmhond’s crew.

Jack Wolfe will be seen as Wylan Hendriks, a skilled chemist, and demolition expert who comes from a wealthy family but somehow ends up in the underworld.

What will happen in Shadow and Bone Season 2?

Netflix hasn’t revealed the official synopsis yet. Until now the series has followed the narrative of the book as closely as possible. If things continue like this. Shadow and Bone Season 2 is expected to start off where it left in the previous season.

With production coming close to an end in May we are expecting more information about Shadow and Bone Season 2 to be released soon. Stay tuned for more updates.

Shadow and Bone Season 1 Recap

In the season 1 finale, we see Alina and Mal stopping the Darkling with the help of Zoya and the Crows. Except for Zoya, everyone departed on various ships to depart for a safer part of the world. For now, Zoya has decided to set her own path. 

The Darkling wasn’t killed either. In the end, we see him appear through the Shadow Fold along with his warriors.
