Welcome back to the Grishaverse! The new season is officially on the way. Here is everything we know so far about
Shadow and Bone Season 2.
There’s only a month until more friendships, new romances, bigger battles, epic adventures—and a shocking family secret that could shatter everything—happen. After months of anticipation, Shadow and Bone Season 2 finally have an official release date! The second season will premiere on Netflix next month on Thursday, March 16, 2023, with each new episode dropping on the same day. In addition to this, the maturity rating will also shift from TV-14 to TV-MA. It will have a time slot of 12:00 a.m. (PT) or 3:00 a.m. (ET), just like the other original series and movies that are exclusively available on the streaming platform.
A brand new trailer of the season was released a few hours ago which showcases, “On the run after the showdown with Kirigan, Alina, and Mal find new allies – and face heartrending choices – in their quest for more mythical amplifiers. To stand a fighting chance against General Kirigan and his seemingly indestructible new army, Alina Starkov, and Mal Oretsev rally their own powerful new allies and begin a continent-spanning journey to find two mythical creatures that will amplify their powers. Back in Ketterdam, a chance at a deadly heist sends the Crows once again on a collision course with the legendary Sun Summoner.”
Shadow and Bone Season 2: What to expect in the new season?
The official description of the series states, “A beacon of hope to some and a suspected traitor to others, Alina is determined to bring down the Shadow Fold and save Ravka from ruin. But this time, General Kirigan is backed by a terrifying new army of seemingly indestructible shadow monsters and fearsome new Grisha recruits. Even a few battle scars on the face can’t stop the wrath of this Darkling. To stand a fighting chance against him, Alina and Mal must rally their powerful new allies and begin a continent-spanning journey to find two mythical creatures that will amplify her powers.”
Hinting more about the new season co-showrunner and executive producer Eric Heisserer tells Netflix Tudum, “The most wonderful thing about Season 2 is that we get to advance the story of these characters that we’d left in precarious positions at the end of Season 1. There’s a lot of potential for them this season,” “They have to face the consequences of their actions, and then they get to meet new people along the way. The Grishaverse also expands in this season, both in mythology and in characters.”
According to Heisserer, there is more to the new season, the viewers will traverse to new locations like Novyi Zem and Shu Han. In addition to this, “We’ve also really dug into more of the mythology this season, in terms of the amplifiers, but also the creator of the amplifiers, Morozova – who he was, what his backstory is, and how he ties into this world,” co-showrunner and executive producer Daegan Fryklind adds.
