Taylor Swift isn’t the only one who agrees with the lyrics of her popular song. As it turns out, Karma has fallen upon Shakira’s ex-husband, Gerard Piqué!
An incident that recently occurred during a performance by Colombian singer and songwriter ex-husband Gerard Piqué has left fans questioning the mysterious workings of karma. On Tuesday night, the retired Spanish defender was finishing up a launch event for his new 7-on-7 organization, Kings League Américas, when he accidentally fell through a stage hole while he started walking towards the side of the stage to interact with the audience as he tried to sign a fan’s shirt.
In the exclusive footage obtained by TMZ, the retired soccer player tried his best to reach out and interact with his supporters, but it didn’t go the way he planned. While clutching his phone close to his ear, he took a mistake step and fell totally out of sight, prompting his worried followers to glance down over the safety barrier to check on him. After the tumble, it has been reported that Piqué was allegedly able to make his way out of the hole as he did not incur any major injuries.
Even though he was quick to recover and make a sleek exit, the internet already got a hold of this moment, which has since become viral as Shakira’s loyal fans have started blaming his bad karma for the unfortunate trip at a public event. It’s quite comical to see how the fans were quick to spread the clip by reacting to this little mishap by raising questions about the interconnectedness of the former Spanish professional footballer’s actions and the consequences they may bring on the way.
Many fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the clip, with one user commenting, “If your day started badly, remember that it can’t be worse than the madness that Gerard Piqué got.” One more X user commented, “The kid with the shirt is a Shakira fan leading Gerard Pique into a trap…” “Don’t disrespect the stage queen and then expect the stage to respect you,” one X user said … while another added, “Things haven’t been working out for him since Shakira got her hips outta there.”

The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer, 46, and Piqué, 36, entered a relationship back in 2011 while meeting on the set of her music video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which served as the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Shakira shared two sons with her now ex-husband, Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7. Eventually, after being together for a decade, back in June 2022, the couple confirmed in a joint statement that they were separating with a short message to fans released by Shakira’s public relations firm to the press.
“We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”
Months later, the Colombian pop star also broke her silence on their “incredibly difficult” split in October 2022. “It’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation,” she told Elle magazine. Also adding, “And so it’s been tough not only for me but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult.”
“Regardless of how things ended or how Gerard and I feel about each other as ex-partners, he is the father of my children,” she noted.
