Here is everything we know so far about Apple TV+’s Silo Season 2.
Silo Season 2 Renewal Status: Is it happening or not?
After much anticipation, we are delighted to inform our beloved readers that the popular science fiction dystopian drama television series, which was created by Graham Yost and based on the Wool series of novels by author Hugh Howey, has been renewed for a second season, which was confirmed by Apple TV+ on June 20, 2023, after it received positive reviews from critics, particularly for the world-building, production design, and Ferguson’s performance.
The official Twitter handle of Apple TV+ also confirmed the renewal update by sharing a quick post among their followers, which you can look at below:

Silo Season 2 Release Date: When is it expected to return?
We would like to clear the air by confirming that the official release date for the second season has not been confirmed by the network as of this writing. But production resource KFTV has recently reported that Silo Season 2 was already filming as of June 2023, despite the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. We speculate that things behind the scenes are moving rather smoothly for the production to proceed further, which is a good sign for the fans.
If Silo Season 2 follows a similar timeline, then we can expect it to arrive by early 2025—though it’s still unclear if the ongoing writers’ strike along with the upcoming actor strike, which has been extinct for some time, will or will not affect the series release. The completion of the second season’s filming will certainly take a lot of time, as it is a VFX and set-heavy series! Hence, a 2025 release window seems ideal for the time being, which, of course, is subject to change and will be confirmed later.
Silo Season 2 Plot: What to expect?
“Silo” is the story of the last ten thousand people on earth, their mile-deep home protecting them from the toxic and deadly world outside. However, no one knows when or why the silo was built, and any who tries to find out faces fatal consequences. Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer who seeks answers about a loved one’s murder and tumbles into a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don’t kill you, the truth will.
Since the series is based on the Wool series of novels by author Hugh Howey, the creators of the show have a lot of source material left for the series to continue for another season. The series, which started back in 2011 with the short story “Wool”, was later published together with four sequel novellas as a novel with the same name. Along with Wool, the series consists of Shift, Dust, three short stories, and Wool: The Graphic Novel.
So, it is certain that the creators will take the novels into consideration and incorporate plotlines from the beloved books to make the story captivating and not confuse the audience who haven’t read the novels! Moreover, Ferguson has promised a “darker” season 2. “I think season 1 was very, very good, but it’s nothing compared to what we’re doing now,” she told EW. “We’ve done the introduction. We know the characters. Now it can go dark. Now things can happen.”
The next season may also include elements from the second and third books.
As, the second book is Shift, which is a prequel to the Wool arc and consists of books 6 through 8: Legacy, Order, and Pact. On the other hand, the third book, Dust, is the final arc of the series and is contained in a single book of the same name. It concludes the stories begun in Wool and Shift. We think that turning this book series into a popular TV trilogy will be an ideal way to tell the story, which the viewers will be highly invested in for years to come!
*Spoiler Alert*
Lastly, the story of the series will be expanded further from the first season’s finale, “Outside” in which the viewers got to see that Juliette has Danny broadcast the outside footage to the whole Silo, but the broadcast is quickly shut down by Bernard. Paul is questioned by Robert on his condition; Paul later tells his wife that they are making an exception so he can be sheriff. Juliette escapes to Mechanical, where she talks to Martha before being arrested.
Bernard offers Juliette a deal: she will go out willingly in exchange for learning what happened to George and ensuring that Mechanical will not be punished. Bernard shows Juliette footage of how George was arrested and jumped off the stairs to avoid interrogation. Bernard destroys the hard drive but later recovers the disc after Juliette mentions a door underneath the Silo. Bernard sentences Lukas to the mines.
Juliette goes outside, and her helmet’s display shows the same video footage of a lush landscape; however, she later finds reality is the desolate view of Silo’s screens. Because Martha has arranged for the heat tape on Juliette’s suit to be good quality, instead of dying there, Juliette is able to walk out of the crater that surrounds Silo’s camera and out of view of the Silo’s residents. The camera pans and zooms out, showing that surrounding the Silo’s crater are dozens of similar craters, each with a similar structure to the silo entrance.
Also, check out the official statement of the showrunner Graham Yost who gave an insight into what the fans can expect from the second season: “We cannot wait for audiences around the world to immerse themselves in the epic world we have created to bring Hugh Howey’s novels to life,” said Yost. “Apple has believed in our vision from day one and it’s an honor to have the opportunity to dig deeper into this story and peel back the layers to our characters in the Silo.”
“It has been enormously fulfilling to see the engrossing, atmospheric, and beautifully crafted sci-fi epic Silo quickly become Apple’s number one drama series,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “As audiences around the world have become gripped by the mysteries and conspiracies buried within this fascinating subterranean world, viewership only continues to climb, and we are so excited for more secrets of the silo to be revealed in season two.”
Silo Season 2 Cast: Who will return?
There has been no confirmation, but we are certain that the main cast members will reprise their roles in the second season, which are as follows: Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols, Rashida Jones as Allison Becker, David Oyelowo as Holston Becker, Common as Robert Sims, Tim Robbins as Bernard Holland, Harriet Walter as Martha Walker, Avi Nash as Lukas Kyle, Rick Gomez as Patrick Kennedy, and Chinaza Uche as Paul Billings.
The recurring cast includes Will Patton as Samuel “Sam” Marnes, Ferdinand Kingsley as George Wilkins, Billy Postlethwaite as Hank, Chipo Chung as Sandy, Remmie Milner as Shirley Campbell, Iain Glen as Dr. Pete Nichols, and Caitlin Zoz as Kathleen Billings. We would also like to emphasize that there can be some new characters introduced and some previous ones removed from the story, which, if it ever happens, will be revealed later by the show’s creators and crew.
“Silo” is produced for Apple TV+ by AMC Studios and based on the novels by Hugh Howey. The series is executive produced by Yost, Howey, and Ferguson, alongside Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum (“Defending Jacob,” “The Imitation Game), who also directs the first three episodes, Nina Jack, Fred Golan, Rémi Aubuchon, and Ingrid Escajeda.
Silo Season 2 Episodes: How many will there be, and where to stream?
The exact episode count of the second season can differ, as the network might go ahead and agree to make the next season supersized in case they cover two books and make it the final season. So, at this point, anything can happen, as it can also be turned into a trilogy! On the bright side, we are certain that the new season will try to keep at least 10 episodes, just like the first season, which premiered one episode on a weekly basis, in order to be consistent in their storylines and keep the fans interested.
So, we advise fans to be patient while they await this information, which will be released in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, you can also binge-watch all the episodes exclusively on Apple TV+, which offers premium, compelling drama and comedy series, feature films, groundbreaking documentaries, and kids and family entertainment and is available to watch across all your favorite screens with a selection of membership tiers from which viewers can pick according to their preferences. On the other hand, international viewers can also use VPNs if their region doesn’t have access to the series.
Silo Season 2 Official Trailer: Has it been released?
There is still a lot of time left for the official trailer to be released, as the production stage is still underway, and no new teaser can be published this early on.
For the time being, we request that the readers check out the 2:27-minute official trailer of the first season, which was released by the network back on April 6, 2023, and showcases, “In a ruined and toxic future, thousands live in a giant silo deep underground. The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 88% approval rating with an average rating of 7.4/10, based on 56 critic reviews. The website’s critics’ consensus reads, “With deft writing, awe-inspiring production design, and the inestimable star power of Rebecca Ferguson, Silo is a mystery box well worth opening.’ Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 75 out of 100 based on 20 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews.”
