Snowpiercer Season 4: Is It The Final One?
After three seasons of adrenaline-rushed brain-freezing culmination of riveting plotlines and dystopian survival antics in a world that is frozen and the remaining humanity struggles to survive in a train, it looks like we await the final chapter of this journey.
In June 2022, TNT, via Deadline, confirmed that Snowpiercer Season 4 would be the final season after the outlet revealed that the actors were released to book other jobs after the cast’s options were not picked up. A TNT spokesperson shared the following statement after the final season confirmation:
“We can confirm that ‘Snowpiercer’ will end after a successful, multi-season run on TNT. Its talented writers, actors, and crew took an extraordinary premise and brought it to life in thrilling ways. It was critically acclaimed, had a significant impact on the post-apocalyptic genre and now remains in the hearts and minds of fans forever.”
Following this argument, fans have responded to the announcement elucidating that it felt bittersweet, but they also knew that the story had to come to an end. So now, the main question remains. When is the release date for Snowpiercer Season 4, and will we get any updates in August regarding the same?
Let’s find out.
Despite TNT’s cancellation and the confirmation that Season 4 is the show’s swan song, Deadline reiterated in January 2023 that Tomorrow Studios is “currently shopping” Snowpiercer’s final season, along with two spin-offs (a potential prequel and sequel) to other networks “to build a franchise.”

Snowpiercer Season 4 Release Date: When Can We Expect It On Our Screens?
After the renewal announcement for the 4th and final season, the fandom has been twiddling its thumbs to learn about the potential release date for the series. We will stop you right there. As of August, there is no announcement regarding a potential date for Snowpiercer Season 4. It is safe to say that even after two years since the announcement, we continue to live in the dark regarding the future of the series.
Snowpiercer Season 1 made its debut on TNT on May 17, 2020. Season 2 premiered on January 25, 2021. Then it was renewed for Season 3 in the same month. The third season was then released on January 24, 2022.
In July 2021, Snowpiercer was renewed for a fourth season, and this was months before Season 3 even premiered.
Thereafter, a report confirmed that filming for the fourth season started in March 2022 and concluded in August 2022. Counting in the production and post-production sequences, we ought to have expected a January 2023 release. However, luck did not favor us. Now we are in the month of August, and no potential release date has been announced yet, leaving the fans in utter dismay and unbridled anticipation.
Although the strike should not affect the filming and production of the series since it was ready before the onslaught of the double strike situation, there are a few guidelines series need to follow according to the rules of the union.
As Variety puts it:
“Film and television productions will shut down, but the work stoppage has reverberations that extend beyond actors going to set…According to the guidelines, SAG-AFTRA members will not be able to attend premieres, do interviews for completed work, go to awards shows, attend film festivals, or even promote projects on social media while the strike is in effect. They are also not allowed to attend conventions such as Comic-Con to promote any past or present work made under a SAG-AFTRA contract.”
So it seems like this might be one of the reasons why there is mute on the part of the series production regarding the release of Snowpiercer Season 4.

There is also another reason. Let’s take a look.
Snowpiercer Season 4: What Is The Current Status?
We hear what you say. Since the first three Seasons are already on Netflix, why isn’t the streamer giant releasing Snowpiercer Season 4? There are some underlying reasons for that.
Netflix has international distribution rights for the first three seasons, but as of August 2023, the streamer hasn’t confirmed whether they’ll be showing season 4.
However, in January 2023, Variety confirmed that Snowpiercer Season 4 “will not air” on TNT as planned.
While the series was initially planned to end in Season 4, Warner Bros. Discovery decided then not to release the next batch of episodes. Variety noted that Tomorrow Studios will shop the series at other outlets.
Following the unfortunate development, a TNT spokesperson shared an official statement, admitting that it was a “difficult decision” for the network:
“We can confirm that TNT will not air season four of ‘Snowpiercer. This was a difficult decision, but our admiration for the talented writers, actors, and crew who brought ‘Snowpiercer’s’ extraordinary post-apocalyptic world to life remains strong.”
The spokesperson then said that they have been working “collaboratively” with Snowpiercer producers to help the series find a new home:
“We have been working collaboratively with the producers since last year to help the series find a new home where fans can continue to enjoy the compelling story and exceptional visual experience. We look forward to working with them on future projects.”
With TNT being owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, they might move the series to Max (previously known as HBO Max). But again, nothing has been announced as of yet.
On January 16, 2023, Bloody Disgusting unveiled that all of Season 4 has been filmed already, indicating that the only missing piece in the puzzle is Snowpiercer’s new network or streaming service.
In the meantime, we urge the fans to continuously check the social media accounts of the show as well as any potential announcements of the streaming platforms mentioned above. However, if you find that difficult to do, you can turn on your post notifications to Web News Observer because we provide regular updates regarding your favorite series.
Snowpiercer Season 4: Cast Members To Reprise Their Roles
And no, Chris Evans isn’t in it. He was in the movie on which the series is based!
The cast members who will reprise their roles as main characters are:
- Jennifer Connelly as Melanie Cavill
- Daveed Diggs as Andre Layton
- Mickey Sumner as Bess Till
- Alison Wright as Ruth Wardell
- Lena Hall as Miss Audrey
- Iddo Goldberg as Bennett Knox
- Rowan Blanchard as Alexandra Cavill
- Sean Bean as Joseph Wilford.
On March 28, 2022, Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov were cast in undisclosed capacities for the fourth season.
Snowpiercer Season 4 is executive produced by new showrunner Paul Zbyszewski, Christoph Schrewe, Marty Adelstein, and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Matthew O’Connor, Ben Rosenblatt, and Scott Derrickson, and the original film’s producers, Oscar winner Bong, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi. The show is produced by Tomorrow Studios, along with CJ Entertainment. ITV Studios handles international distribution.
Snowpiercer Season 4: Expected Plot
“Snowpiercer has been an incredibly successful series for us that continues to capture the imagination of viewers, grow audience and maintain strong ratings,” said Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain, co-heads of scripted original programming for TBS, TNT, and truTV. “All of our seasons embark on an emotional, unexpected ride, and the well-plotted storylines will continue to evolve and remain relevant to audiences. We’re excited to keep the train running into Season 4.”
Additionally, a spokesperson for the network said in a statement to Deadline, quote, “We can confirm that Snowpiercer will end after a successful, multi-season run on TNT.” Further adding, “Its talented writers, actors, and crew took an extraordinary premise and brought it to life in thrilling ways. It was critically acclaimed, had a significant impact on the post-apocalyptic genre and now remains in the hearts and minds of fans forever.”
The season is expected to follow up on the final episode from Season 3, “The Original Sinners,” in which the viewers got to see Layton and Melanie get ready to fight over who will control the train. Bojan, who is later discovered to be still alive, and Wilford’s new cold man are among the forces that seize control of the Night Car and take pleasure in the mayhem. In the end, Melanie strikes a deal with Wilford, but she later regrets it, as does Layton. Instead of allowing the situation to worsen, Melanie and Layton reach an agreement in which they exile Wilford along with them on the track scaler and then offer the populace the option of remaining on Snowpiercer with Melanie or moving to New Eden with Layton.
As people choose where to go, the separation of the trains forces loved ones to say goodbye. After Oz leaves her, LJ accidentally chokes to death on her father’s glass eye, Snowpiercer decides last-minute to stay with Audrey, and Bennett stays after Melanie fully commits to their relationship. Big Alice is derailed by the difficult route to the Horn of Africa, but everyone lives, and they discover that the outside is warm and livable. Three months later, Melanie is traveling in the Snowpiercer when she notices a rocket explode on the horizon, sending several mortar shells in its direction.
The Snowpiercer season 4 plot is likely to revolve around the missile that was seen in the season 3 finale. We don’t know who sent the missile, where it is headed, or why it’s there, but we’re pretty sure we’re about to find out.
In season 3, we also saw the train split into various groups with their cars. We assume season 4 will show us how these new paths work out for the groups led by Melanie, Andre, and Layton.
More information on what the plot constitutes is still under wraps and will only be revealed once we see it on our screens to avoid any unnecessary spoilers. Until then, you can jog your memory on the plotline by checking out an episode run-down of Season 3.

Snowpiercer Season 4: Where To Watch And Episode Count
There has been a bit of a conundrum regarding this. TNT has pulled out, so now it’s hard to predict where Snowpiercer season 4 will end up being. Netflix has international distribution rights for the first three seasons, but as of June 2023, the streamer hasn’t confirmed whether they’ll be showing season 4. With TNT being owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, it’s possible they might move the series to Max (previously known as HBO Max). But again, nothing has been announced as of yet.
So there is an air of uncertainty surrounding where Snowpiercer Season 4 will end up. However, we will be sure to update you on the same, so stay tuned to this space.
However, you can catch up on the earlier three Seasons of the series on Netflix, which is available to stream right now if you have a subscription plan in hand. The series is also available to stream on the TNT app and HBO Max. You can also stream Snowpiercer by renting or purchasing it on Amazon Instant Video, depending on the viewer’s preference and location.
The final season is expected to be consistent like the prior three chapters and is speculated to consist of 10 episodes with an average runtime of roughly 44 to 51 minutes, premiering new episodes on a weekly basis.
