Sofia Vergara has finally opened up about her divorce!
Vergara, 51 revealed the reason behind her split from her second husband, Joe Manganiello, 47, with whom she parted ways last year. She claimed their ages and different perceptions about having children to be the reason behind their split.
While talking to a Spanish newspaper, El País in an interview on January 15, the “Modern Family” fame talked about her divorce when she was asked about her personal life, saying, “I’m newly divorced from my second husband who I was with for 10 years. My marriage broke up because my husband was younger, he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom.”
“I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore. I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother,” she continued referring to her son Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, whom she shares with her first husband and high-school sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez.
Sofia concluded her response, keeping an open mind about her future relationships by saying, “So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children. I’m almost in menopause, it’s the natural way of things,” and also talking about the time when she will become a grandmother by saying, “When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life, that’s what I have to do.”
Sofia and Joe Manganiello first met in 2014 at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner and confirmed their relationship in August 2014, after dating for a year the couple decided to tie the knot in November 2015. After spending 7 years in wedlock, the couple announced that their marriage ended in July 2023, when Joe filed for divorce.
The former couple released a joint statement, days before the office paperwork was filed, which read, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce, As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
After the split of the two, Joe Manganiello is now romantically linked with Caitlin O’Connor as the couple made their first red carpet appearance in December 2023. While talking to Us Weekly about the couple, a source said, “Joe and Caitlin are both easy-going that they work really well together,” also saying that “She’s not a big drinker or a party girl.”
