Squid Game makes record with 14 nominations for the Emmy Awards

The nominations for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards were finally announced on July 12, 2022. As expected, the South Korean series Squid Game has made history! It is because the popular show has received a total number of 14 nominations for the Emmys also, including the nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. With this particular nomination, Squid Game has now become the first non-English language series to get nominated in the said category for the Emmy Awards.

Apart from the above nominations, Squid Game has also bagged five acting awards for its actors. The nomination makes them the first native Korean actors in their respective categories. Talking about actor Lee Jung Jae, he has been nominated for the award of Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Apart from that, Jung Ho Yeon received a nomination for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. On the other hand, Oh Young Su and Park Hae Soo have been nominated for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Talking about Lee Yoo Mi, she has been nominated in the category of Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

Then comes Squid Game creator Hwang Dong Hyuk. He is nominated for two categories – Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. It makes him the first native Korean creator to earn Emmy nominations for drama writing and directing.

Squid Game has also bagged nominations for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, Outstanding Stunt Performance, Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode, Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour), and Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More).

Talking about the Emmy Awards, the mega event is all set to take place on September 22, 2022.

The REAL Squid Game

A few weeks ago, Netflix announced yet another surprising news for the Squid Game fans. It is because the streaming giant is all set for a new reality series based on the mega-hit show. Netflix announced on June 14, 2022, that Squid Game: The Challenge, a new reality show, will be made based on the original mega-hit series that won the hearts of millions around the world.

For the unversed, the original series was also titled Squid Game, and it had 456 members as competitors who joined a mysterious survival but deadly game with a reward of a whopping 45.6 billion KRW. The competitors learned the catch only after joining the game – if you do not win, you will be eliminated from this world permanently. The original series was created by writer, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong Hyuk.
