Is Squid Game Season 2 coming to Netflix in November 2022?
As of October 29, 2022, we can assure readers that Squid Game Season 2 won’t be available on Netflix next month. The anticipated premiere date for the upcoming season has yet to be disclosed by the network. According to reports, Netflix confirmed that the second season was greenlit in June 2022 and is slated to be broadcast by late 2023 or early 2024. Netflix is also developing a reality competition program based on Squid Game, featuring 456 players competing for a large cash prize.
Moreover, the recent production status of the series is also not confirmed by the creators, which will lead to the post-production stage as it will take some time to perfect the episodes in order to make the next season much more compelling for the fans. Hence, we suggest fans be patient for some time as these announcements take their time to be published and are made in a scheduled manner by the streaming platforms.
Squid Game Season 2 Plot and Time Slot
It is reported that the series will continue from the finale episode of the first season, which is immediately after Gi-hun leaves the airport to stop the games. He gets abducted by the game runners. When he wakes up, he finds himself among 455 people from different places around the world (although most of them are from the United States). Gi-hun realizes that the games are an international affair.
Players are fatally eliminated through a series of terrifying and brutal childhood games until only one remains. Fans may have to wait a little longer before returning to the games. “We are working on the script right now and making the form of the story,” executive producer Kim Ji-yeon tells Tudum. “But there’s definitely a lot of pressure on how to make [Season 2] even better. I know that a lot of the different fans and audiences have enjoyed the series very much, but really we’re focusing on how to make it even more joyful to the global audience.”
When interviewed by Variety at the SAG Awards, Jung-jae shared his thoughts on what could happen in season 2. The actor said, “After we filmed Squid Game Season 1, we all got together brainstorming ideas for how to bring everybody back alive. My idea is the masked men carry all of them out as quickly as possible and do a surgery on them to keep them alive.”
In addition to this, if we take the prior seasons into consideration with a bit of speculation, then the upcoming season of Squid Game will have the same premiere time as other shows on the streaming service, which is 12:00 AM (PT) or 3:00 AM (ET). Squid Game Season 2: What did the show’s creator say about the new season?
Dong-hyuk shared a lot in a great interview with The Hollywood Reporter, mentioning that there was a lot that wasn’t explored in season 1 that could make its way into the second season, quote, “the story of the police officer and the story of his brother, the Front Man.”
He shared, “I’d like to explore that storyline – what is going on between those two brothers? And then I could also go into the story of that recruiter in the suit who plays the game of ddakji with Gi-hun and gives him the card in the first episode. And, of course, we could go with Gi-hun’s story as he turns back, and explore more about how he’s going to navigate through his reckoning with the people who are designing the games. So, I don’t know yet, but I’ll just say there are a lot of possibilities out there for season two storylines.”
Squid Game Season 2 Cast
According to Netflix, Hwang confirms that there will be some familiar faces returning next season by tweeting an announcement in June 2022 sharing that there would be a second season of the popular series. Last year’s winner, Gi-hun, will be back with the Front Man, in addition to a brand-new character. Everyone’s favorite killer doll Young-hee is officially off the market, and viewers will be introduced to her boyfriend, Cheol- su. Maybe we’ll get a romantic duet from the couple right before they give you that deadly look. Will we see more of The Salesman slapping people in the face? “The man in the suit with ddakji might be back,” Hwang teases. It’s time to cue up the Pink Soldiers’ theme song because the game isn’t over yet.
Squid Game Season 1: A quick recap of the finale episode
The finale of Squid Game, simply titled, One Lucky Day, aired on Netflix along with the rest of the eight episodes. The episode is directed and written by Hwang Dong-hyuk. In the episode, the viewers got to see that, after a brutal fight, Gi-hun defeats Sang-woo in the final eponymous squid game but refuses to kill him; he begs Sang-Woo to stop the game using the third clause.
Instead, Sang-woo stabs himself in the neck and asks Gi-hun to look after his mother before dying. Gi-hun is returned to Seoul with a bank card in order to access the prize money, but he learns that his own mother has died. Gi-hun is still traumatized a year later and has not touched his prize money out of guilt. He finds Oh Il-nam on his deathbed after receiving an invitation card from his gganbu.
Il-nam explains that he created the game to amuse bored wealthy people like himself. He chose games from his childhood and joined Gi-group hun’s out of nostalgia. During their conversation, Il-nam bets with Gi-hun on whether an unconscious man lying on a street corner will be helped before midnight. The man is saved, but Il-nam dies soon after. Gi-hun takes Sae-brother byeok’s and places him in the care of Sang-mother, woo’s as well as giving them a share of the prize money.
As Gi-hun travels to the airport to see his daughter in Los Angeles, he sees the same game recruiter playing ddakji with another desperate player but only obtains that player’s invitation card. He dials the card’s number before boarding his flight, demanding to know who is running the games. The person behind the phone number curtly orders him to get on the plane, but Gi-hun ends the call and returns to the terminal.
