Squid Game Season 2: Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun all set to reprise their roles

Did you love watching Squid Game? Then there is some good news for you. The Korean drama will be back with its new season, and we couldn’t be more excited about the same. The makers have kept mum till now regarding the Netflix series, and the fans were eagerly waiting to get some updates on the production. Well, their prayers have been answered now, and details about the upcoming season were unveiled on April 9, 2022.

What is the announcement?

Squid Game’s director Hwang Dong-Hyuk made an appearance on Deadline Contenders Television. The event was held at the popular Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, California. What excited the audience further was that Park Hae Soo was also present during the event. It was there that the director confirmed that Sung Ki Hoon would be back for Squid Game Season 2. Moreover, he also confirmed that the Frontman, played by Lee Byung Hun, would be coming back too.

The reprising characters

Lee Jung Jae, who plays the role of Sung Ki Hoon, almost hinted at his return in the last episode of Squid Game. Lee Byung Hun, who plays the role of the Frontman, is also expected to appear in Squid Game Season 2. However, this is the first time that the fans have got to know about the Frontman’s return to the new season.

Director Hwang Dong-Hyuk had earlier dodged similar questions at various award ceremonies. Earlier, when he was asked about the characters of the new season, he simply joked by saying that a twin brother or sister of Kang Sae Byeok (Jung Ho Yeon) and Jo Sang-Woo (Park Hae Soo) may appear in the same.

Hwang Dong-Hyuk’s proclamation

Hwang Dong-Hyuk had earlier said that he hoped for works like Squid Game to have the doors opened to some degree. He also talked about his upcoming project, Killing Old People Club. Dong-Hyuk talked about how they have to consider cultural differences, political polarization, and the current environmental and climatic change for the current project and the future ones. He further said he would continue to observe and criticize the themes in the future and incorporate them into his work.

Park Hae Soo’s fans may be already excited about his return to Squid Game Season 2. Talking about the same, he said that his one is a character that can be seen in everyday life. He further said that he approached the character without thinking of the latter as a villain from the beginning. According to Hae Soo, the character is a person who was influenced by the situation and environment he was in earlier.
