Sweet Home Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere on Netflix?
The wait is finally over as the much-awaited second season of the popular South Korean series, which is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan, has finally been revealed! After breaking streaming records by getting over 2.1 billion net views, the series will soon grace our television screens with the second chapter, which is scheduled to be released next month on Friday, December 1, 2023.
The new season will be released in the same time slot, which is 12:00 a.m. (PT) and 3:00 a.m. (ET), for its worldwide debut on Netflix. The release date was confirmed along with an official teaser trailer that showcased the events after the first season.
The show centered around Cha Hyun-su, a reclusive high school student who moved into a new apartment building called Green Home. In the face of a crisis where individuals turned into monsters reflecting their innermost desires, Hyun-su broke out of his shell to save others. In a world where desire turns monstrous, Sweet Home Season 2 follows Green Home survivors and Hyun-su fighting to survive in new places while other beings and mysterious phenomena emerge.
Sweet Home Season 2: What to expect?
The official plot of the second season as per Netflix is as follows:
“Song Kang, Lee Jin-uk, Lee Si-young, Ko Min-si, and Park Gyu-young — the residents of Green Home who, in the previous season, delivered overwhelming tension as they risked their lives through bloody battles against their neighbors-turned-monsters — return again in season 2 to offer thrills and tension of a whole new different kind.
Joining the cast in the new season are actors Yoo Oh-seon, Oh Jung-se, Kim Mu-yeol, and Jin-young, portraying the various dimensions of human nature and desires as they find themselves at a crossroads for survival. Having opened new horizons for K-content with its diverse creatures designed and built with a global dream team, Sweet Home Season 2 is ready to mesmerize audiences around the world once again with its expanded world and story.”
Director Lee Eung-bok has stated, “It is going to be a full-fledged apocalyptic drama. While Season 1 portrayed tension and fear in the confined space of the Green Home, Season 2 will be set in an open space with the introduction of a whole new group of characters and monsters.” Moreover, actor Lee Jin-uk affirms, “This season will present a world that diverges from the original webtoon. As the world expands, there will be more to think about.”
Whereas, actor Lee Si-young heightens the excitement for how the story will unfold, explaining, “A vastly sprawling world awaits the characters after they leave Green Home. Everyone will go through major changes.”
The date announcement poster features a dilapidated baseball stadium, serving as the backdrop for the upcoming season’s narrative. In addition to this, the official press release by Netflix further details that the main characters depart from the Green Home, the site of their previous monster battles, and are compelled to venture into the outside world. Survivors have gathered at what is left of the stadium and built a community, but they still cannot let their guard down.
The evolving storyline promises heightened anticipation as the characters confront new dangers in different environments, where they have to fight against both external monsters and their own monstrous desires.
Song Kang returns as Hyun-su, who is shown in the date announcement trailer being taken to a mysterious location in a cage. Under the scrutiny of a voice claiming to have been waiting for him, Hyun-su determinedly asks what he needs to do. As survivors continue to grapple with the threat of monsterization and groups of monsters on a rampage, what can Hyun-su do? Is he indeed the savior who can save everyone from this nightmare?
The other cast members who are expected to appear in the season are Yu Oh-seong as Sergeant Tak In-hwan, leader of the Special Forces Guard; Oh Jung-se as Dr. Lim, a researcher of vaccines; Kim Mu-yeol as Kim Young-hoo, a former UDT sergeant, and the second-in-command of the Guard Corps; Jung Jin-young as Park Chan-young, a soldier in the Special Forces Guard; Kim Shin-rok; Yook Jun-seo; Chae Won-bin as Ja-young, and Kim Jung-woo.
