Dropped on the streaming giant globally on December 20th, 2020, this South Korean apocalyptic horror television series has quickly risen to be one of the most popular Netflix K-dramas. Based on the titular Naver webtoon by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan, the series featured Song Kang, Lee Jin-wook and Lee Si-young.
Produced by Studio Dragon, which is popularly known for My Holo Love, Love Alarm, Arthdal Chronicles, and Crash Landing on You, Sweet Home received a quick renewal for seasons two and three, which is seldom recorded in the history of Netflix.
Here’s a quick rundown on Sweet Home season 2.
When was Sweet Home officially confirmed for two more seasons?
Sweet Home was officially renewed for two more seasons 18 months after the release of the first season on Netflix. There were a lot of speculations regarding Sweet Home season 2 before the official announcement was made in June 2022, especially in March when several images were shared on the Instagram page of Song Kang’s manager, who revealed the renewal.
As mentioned previously, Netflix did not only confirm Sweet Home season 2 but also renewed the thriller for a third season as well. The announcement was made by sharing a video that also revealed that “seasons 2&3 now in production.”
When can we expect Sweet Home season 2 to release on Netflix?
At the time of writing this article, Netflix has not announced the release date of Sweet Home season 2. However, in early 2023, the streaming giant enlisted the thriller in the litany of K-dramas coming this year. To make it more precise, Netflix confirmed that Sweet Home season 2 will release in Q4 2023, between October and December.
In May 2023, Netflix released the list of shows and movies premiering in its fall 2023 line-up. Guess what? Sweet Home season 2 was included in its lineup. This means that the brand-new installment could hit the Netflix library sometime in October or November. We assume the season will hit in October, as Halloween falls around the same time.
What is the production status of Sweet Home season 2 now?
Per What’s on Netflix, filming for Sweet Home seasons 2 and 3 started in South Korea in early 2023. Not only that, but the reports also suggest that the filming was initially scheduled to wrap in mid-February 2023.
On March 13th, the filming of seasons 2 and 3 had reportedly wrapped, as mentioned by Herald Pop. This was confirmed as the actress Go Min-si also shared an Instagram post sharing the update. The post was captioned with the following:
“Finally! Shooting for Sweet Home Season 2&3 is over! filmed it for over a year. I love all the staff, actors, and directors. and action school team worked so hard! Thank you so so so much and I love them. I was happy because we were together❤️ Love you guys so much for waiting for Sweet Home.

What can we expect to happen in Sweet Home Season 2?
*Spoilers ahead*
When the show was renewed for two more seasons, Netflix told THR, “In these new seasons, Sweet Home will take on a larger scale with an expanded storyline and cast.” Not only that, but the director also teased that the second season will feature “a new setting.” To spike the anticipation of fans even more, Song Kang told xportsnews, “There are more scary episodes than fun” in Sweet Home season 2.
Previously in the season one finale, we saw Sang-wook’s body floating in a pool of his blood after he tried to help Yu Ri. The audience was left shell-shocked when Cha Hyun Soo woke up in the military van, which was driven by scarless Sang Wook. This leads us to deal with an array of assumptions.
It’s possible that Sang Wook has undergone his own metamorphosis and is going through the Golden Hour before he is transformed into a monster. Meanwhile, it’s also possible that Myeong, who escaped in a military van after being defeated by Cha Hyun Soo, has taken possession of his own powers, which has led him to control Sang Wook’s body. The second season will presumably uncover either of the two tangents.
The upcoming installments will also underscore Eun Hyunk’s existence. In season one, before Green Homes collapsed, Eun Hyuk started bleeding in a way an infected would. Regardless of being buried under the rubble of the apartment block, Eun Yuk’s possible metamorphosis can save his life. His turning, as the viewers might be aware, is catalyzed by his desire to keep his broken family united.
By the end of Sweet Home season one, only a handful of survivors were successful in escaping from the Green Homes. With Eun Hyuk’s belief that the military won’t guarantee safety, the survivors’ search for shelter won’t last for long.
The official synopsis for Sweet Home season 2 reads:
“Song Kang, Lee Jin-uk, Lee Si-young, Ko Min-si, and Park Gyu-young — the residents of Green Home who, in the previous season, delivered overwhelming tension as they risked their lives through bloody battles against their neighbours-turned-monsters — return again in season 2 to offer thrills and tension of a whole new different kind. Joining the cast in the new season are actors Yoo Oh-seon, Oh Jung-se, Kim Mu-yeol, and Jin-young, portraying the various dimensions of human nature and desires as they find themselves at a crossroads for survival. Having opened new horizons for K-content with its diverse creatures designed and built with a global dream team, Sweet Home Season 2 is ready to mesmerize audiences around the world once again with its expanded world and story.”

- Lee Jin-wook
- Lee Si-young

Initially, actress and K-Pop artist BIBI (Kim Hyung-seo) was confirmed to feature in the second season of this South Korean apocalyptic horror. Unfortunately, she stepped down from the role owing to scheduling conflicts and left the team in March 2023.
