Get ready for more margarita nights because we’re heading back to the charming Southern hometown for Season 4 of Sweet Magnolias!
If you were looking for good news, here’s your sign. After months of anticipation and speculation, the dedicated fans of Sweet Magnolias can finally rejoice as their patience has finally been rewarded by Netflix. Yes, you read it right! The beloved romantic drama series, which is developed by the talented Sheryl J. Anderson, has no doubt garnered a massive following since its premiere, which peaked after the premiere of the third season of Sweet Magnolias earlier this year.
Due to this, Netflix had to listen to the demand of their subscribers and has to finally confirm that the series, which is based on the Sweet Magnolias novels by Sherryl Woods, isn’t getting scrapped anytime soon, and it has been picked up for a fourth season. The renewal confirmation for the highly anticipated fourth season comes three months after Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias debuted as a part of Netflix’s summer streaming season on July 20, 2023.

Many reports have highlighted that this sudden delay in the renewal announcement was caused by various logistics factors, including Hollywood’s two biggest strikes: the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which halted many platforms from giving out early renewals in case any uncertain production hurdles came unplanned on the way. Right now, even though the WGA strike has officially ended, the actor’s strike (SAG-AFTRA) is still ongoing as negotiations are being made to reach a fair agreement.
Despite all these difficulties, many were certain that this romantic drama streaming television series will be picked up without a doubt as the series continues to draw large, passionate female audiences. Across its three seasons to date, Sweet Magnolias has been in the Global Top 10 for 10 weeks in over 60 countries, with the most recent third season debuting at the No. 1 spot on the streaming charts from various regions around the world.
According to reports, it also featured in the global Netflix top 10s for four weeks in total, picking up 126.40 million hours between July 16th and August 13th before dropping out of the top 10s charts! To be honest, it’s good to know that Sweet Magnolias has secured its place and will now be a part of Netflix’s lineup of “comfort” scripted drama series that also includes originals like Virgin River, Ginny & Georgia, Love at First Sight, and Choose Love among others that also available to binge-watch.
Sweet Magnolias Season 4 Potential Release Date: When will it premiere on Netflix?
If we observe, the gap between this show’s previous seasons has roughly been about a year or so, which is typical for a show of this caliber to wrap up its methodical production on schedule and not last more than a few months. Hence, as per our guess, the new season might come back around mid-to-late 2024, just like the past two seasons, which premiered in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Moreover, we should consider that the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing and has put a halt to major work among various production houses in Hollywood until a proper resolution relating to actors’ compensation is made.
Due to this, we speculate that the production can be delayed until late 2023 with the release window still uncertain, and it can be changed as per the schedule. So, everything relating to this subject matter is just pure speculation, and we’ll have to wait some time until the network confirms these details in the near future!
What to expect from Season 4?
The plot of Sweet Magnolias Season 4 will expand from the third season, which follows:
“Following the brawl at Sullivan’s, Maddie wrestles with the best way to help Cal and works to clear her own emotional path. Helen faces difficult decisions about the men in her life. And Dana Sue searches for a way to use Miss Frances’ check to help the community without upending her family.
The identity of the tire slasher sends shockwaves through Serenity, the recall causes unexpected consequences, and there are romantic surprises in every generation. Throughout the season, the ladies tackle these problems — and all the complications they cause — with their trademark warmth, humor, and devotion to each other and those they love. And margaritas.”
The finale episode of the third season will also expand the story further as at the end of Season 3, Dana Sue and her estranged husband, Ronnie (Brandon Quinn), renew their vows in a beautiful ceremony attended by their nearest and dearest. Helen seems to be on track to reunite with Erik (Dion Johnstone), while Maddie is happy in her relationship with Cal (Justin Bruening) and poised for a new step in her career. Additionally, Swisher told Tudum that there’s plenty of ground to cover when the show returns for Season 4.
“Even though this season ended with a nice button, it almost feels like it was a necessary button to really dig in deep for the future,” she said. There’s still so much to be told.” Anderson also told Tudum that Season 4 will explore more of the conflicts introduced in the finale, “examining the twists and turns of romance, the complexity of friendship, the surprises that pop up in life, and how all these things make us more grateful for the people who love us, the people who fight for — and with — us, and the people who can make us laugh, whatever we’re going through.”
Anderson also notes, “True friendship is a living thing: It has to change and grow as we do. And that’s not always easy. But that’s what makes it beautiful.”
She continues to state, “The beating heart of this show is the deep relationship between these three amazing women, and how they sustain and celebrate each other. We’re always eager to share the moments that make life special with them and through them. But perhaps what excites me most about being able to bring Season 4 to life is that I get to collaborate again with our marvelous writers, cast, and crew. I get to live in Serenity again, to soak up the strength and happiness of a town where people truly want the best for each other and are willing to put in the work necessary to make that happen.”
