It’s a love story, and Taylor just said yes!
Travis Kelce’s proposal swept the Swifties off their feet like no other album from the pop icon. While the proposal became an overnight sensation, it wasn’t as impromptu as it might seem, according to Kelce’s father, Ed.
Speaking to News 5 Cleveland Station, an ABC affiliate, Kelce’s father revealed that the proposal took place, “maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago.” It happened in a garden in the city of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Ed shared that his son Kelce wanted to “make it a big special event”, and therefore, he was postponing it “till this week.”
tayStating that Swift was “getting maybe a little antsy”, he explained how he convinced his son to propose nevertheless, saying, “And I told him repeatedly, you how, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
The 74-year-old father then continued to describe how the American football player proposed to the “Fearless” singer, saying, “He got her out there, they were about to go to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine’…they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful.”
Overcome with joy, the newly-engaged couple “started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great”, Ed said. He also shared that when the couple FaceTimed him, he had a foreboding about “what they were going to say.”
Kelce and Swift officially announced their engagement on Instagram on Tuesday, August 26. Crossing over 33 million likes on the social media platform, the five-picture post and the one-line caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married”, were enough to catch the internet in a whirlwind of emotions.

The photos grab the followers’ attention with their dreamy, paradisiacal vibe that depicts the NFL star getting down on one knee with the ring in his hand, popping the question to the 14-time Grammy-awarded singer.
Per BBC, Swift had styled Ralph Lauren’s halter neck dress and diamond-encrusted Cartier watch, along with her sparkling engagement ring, which is a cushion-cut diamond on a gold band.
According to PEOPLE, the 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end approached high-end jewellery designer Kindred Lubeck and Artifex Fine Jewelry for the engagement ring, who are quite famous for their luxury designs, which often cost more than $33,650. The ring, which boasts an Old Mine Brilliant Cut diamond, is reportedly designed by Travis Kelce along with Lubeck, with a mesmerizing rectangular cut that exudes antique references.
However, the ring is not the only thing that the Swifties are swooning over. They are also obsessed with the floral decorations that set the backdrop to the culmination of this beautiful love story.
Per PEOPLE‘s expert, the entire cost of the proposal likely amounted to $38,000. Breaking down the cost of the magical backdrop to the news outlet, Ashley Greer, a florist and owner of D.C.-based Atelier Ashley Flowers, describes the scene as an “enchanted garden” and says, “Pulling imagery from so many of (Swift’s) songs, a magical garden scene is constructed amidst August forest trees.”

The florist also adds that approximately 800 pounds of greenery were required, along with 1200 roses and at least 1000 other flowers to create this daydream. Additionally, Greer explains the infrastructure of the 20-foot “domed arboretum,” which was adorned with “garden roses, anemone, roses, lilies and candles”, roughly costing between $18,000 and $30,000. In addition to these details, she also considers the ground installation cost of “boulders, river rocks, plants, white duchess peonies, white scabiosa, ferns, and pockets of roses,” estimating somewhere between $4,000 and $5,000.
With this, fans are left wondering with only one thing on their mind: If the proposal is so dreamy and magical, how would the wedding look? But it seems that we’ll have to wait for the wedding bells since no date has been officially announced as of yet.
Nevertheless, the friends and family of the couple have already showered their blessings on social media, no sooner than when they officially announced it. Daughter of Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, Gracie Hunt, released an exclusive statement to PEOPLE expressing her excitement about the news, stating, “I can’t stop smiling – Travis and Taylor’s engagement feels like a modern fairytale unfolding in real life. Their love story has captured so many hearts, and now it’s stepping into an even more magical chapter.”
And not just that, but the brother-in-law to be of the Swifties, Jason Kelce, also gave a shoutout to the couple on his podcast, New Heights, as reported by PEOPLE. Calling it “the proposal heard round the world”, Jason said in the episode, “We did record this podcast on Monday, which was Travis’ one day off. So, he is not here to address this himself, but we felt it necessary as a team here at New Heights to get together and send Travis and Taylor a giant congratulations for being engaged!”

Quite surprisingly, Love Story singer’s ex, Taylor Lautner, who had dated the 35-year-old singer for a few months, also had something to say to the engagement announcement. Celebrating the love between the couple and showcasing his support, the Twilight actor reposted the carousel to his Instagram account. On the first slide, there was a split photo of one of the photos from the official announcement with another showcasing the couple together when the Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC Championship. Swift and Lautner rekindled their friendship after they separated in the fall of 2009.
Little did the Lover singer know that almost 15 years later, after dating and breaking up with a bunch of men, she would finally get the chance to live her “love story”.
Their relationship became official in October 2023.
