Although Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement was a public affair, their wedding might not be as widely publicized.
Speaking to PEOPLE, an insider revealed that the Fearless singer and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end are inclined towards keeping their nuptials private.
“It will definitely be a private affair and not a spectacle. They both have a close circle of friends, and they’ll respect their privacy,” the source said.
Their decision to refrain from publicizing their wedding presumably comes after their predilection to live a more “normal life”, according to a US Weekly source. The news outlet also reported the frequent surreptitious outings of the couple, away from the public eye, especially in the Lone Mountain Ranch, located between the Rocky Mountains in Big Sky, Montana. The couple was spotted sojourning in this exclusive destination earlier this year, possibly owing to its heightened security measures, including no access to phones and a confidential code for entry.
Appreciating their decision to refrain from the public eye in April, David E. Johnson, CEO and founder of Strategic Vision PR Group, told US Weekly, “They’d become overexposed to the point we were starting to see a slight backlash against their brand. No celebrity wants to be overexposed… Limiting their exposure lends more intrigue, and their appearances garner more coverage.”

History has been a witness to the escalating number of relationships in Hollywood that have fractured due to fame. This explains why Taylor Swift has fortified her relationships from the public eye. In relation to her six-year romance with the British actor Joe Alwyn, during which they were rarely photographed, Swift’s relationship with Kelce is a bit more public.
Talking about the dynamics of her relationship with the 35-year-old American football player in her 2023 Time Person of the Year cover story, the Lover singer said, “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care. The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
It seems that both Kelce and Swift are seeing eye to eye on this matter because the football player does not want to be in the spotlight. Speaking to US Weekly, a source confided, “Travis wants to take [a breather] from the public eye. He was working too much last year, and he didn’t play as well as he wanted.”
Despite the discontentment, Kelce is not thinking of retiring anytime soon and is planning to come back even stronger. The source continued to say, “He wants to have a good season and not have the focus be on his relationship with Taylor.”
The couple’s disposition towards privacy also explains why they didn’t announce their engagement news immediately. Although they shared the news with their close friends and family members, the official announcement appeared days later. Speaking to PEOPLE, a source shared, “Taylor and Travis’s friends are thrilled for them, and a lot of them found out about the engagement right after it happened. Keeping it quiet wasn’t easy, but now that it’s out, everyone’s just excited.”
Rejoicing in the couple’s official bond, the loved ones had affirmed that they are the perfect match for each other, per the insider. Revealing the collective feeling that the couple’s close ones harbored for them, the source shared with PEOPLE, “Their friends feel like they bring out the best in each other, and the people close to them are glad it’s out in the open. Everyone thinks they make a great couple, and it’s been awesome to see how they’ve made time for each other despite their busy schedules.”
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on Instagram on August 26, 2025, with a carousel of photos that foregrounded the couple against a dreamy, paradisiacal backdrop, enamored with flowers. The post was captioned with:
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
