For years, Taylor Swift’s music has been known to always have an air of mystery surrounding the stories being told within the lyrics, which has always raised eyebrows and sent fans into a frenzy by dissecting each word in order to know all the details that the singer-songwriter seems to be hinting at.

Recently, a fascinating revelation has come to light as longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff seemingly unveiled that Swift had penned the emotionally charged track “You’re Losing Me” a whole year before her heartbreaking split with the English actor Joe Alwyn.

The “From the Vault” track, which is written and produced by Swift and Antonoff, was released last month on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.

After listening to the song on a loop, Swifties seems to be assured that Antonoff has subtly dropped hints about the breakup’s timeline through his Instagram Story, which was uploaded on the same day the track was released, where a candid snapshot of Swift was shared where the singer seemed to be sorting raisins over the kitchen countertop with the caption reading: “You’re losing me is out today,” he wrote. “A very special track from the midnight’s sessions that’s finally st[r]eaming! written and recorded at home on 12/5/21 right after Taylor ate these raisins.”

The Swifties should help but wonder to whom the song, which is a bonus track on The Late Night Edition of Swift’s 2022 studio album Midnights, seemed to be alluding, as the track is a mid-tempo ballad driven by beats similar to a heart pulse, with lyrics describing the imminent dissolution of a long-term romantic relationship due to a diminished understanding between the partners. Even though the song has an emotional nuance to its storytelling, it has become a subject of widespread speculation about the song being associated with the breakup.

To add more fuel to the fire, lyrics like: “I wouldn’t marry me either / A pathological people pleaser / Who only wanted you to see her” and “How long could we be a sad song / ‘Til we were too far gone to bring back to life?” She also sings, “Do I throw out everything we built or keep it? I’m getting tired even for a phoenix. I’m always rising from the ashes.”

These lines clearly seem to reference a long-term relationship on the decline because of the news of Swift’s split from Joe Alwyn, which broke in April of this year. Moreover, Antonoff’s quote in the story directly states that the song was written and recorded by Swift at home in 2021, which fits the timeline perfectly! Fans have conjectured and debated whether the song is indeed about Alwyn. The fact that the 4-minute track was written two years ago suggests that the problems between Alwyn and Swift may have arisen considerably earlier than previously believed by fans worldwide.

One X user commented, “new Joe Alwyn lashings because of Jack Antonoff what do you mean she was sad and eating raisins a week before her birthday?!?!” A second one wrote, “Jack Antonoff unleashing pure chaos online via an Instagram story of Taylor and some raisins is the most Jack Antonoff thing ever.” A third one commented, “Jack Antonoff after posting the most heartbreaking shocking astonishing piece of information followed by a picture of Taylor eating raisins.” A fourth one stated, “Jack Antonoff knew what he was doing with that story, and it was not about the raisins.”

According to Entertainment Tonight, it was the 33-year-old singer who initiated the end of the relationship. “Taylor and Joe are in totally different places in their lives right now,” an insider revealed. “It was more of Taylor’s decision to break up, but both of them realized that they weren’t completely right for one another. They had been together for such a long time and were spending so much time together, but their personalities were just too different. Joe is more introverted, shy, and quiet.” On the other hand, PEOPLE reported that Taylor and Joe split due to “differences in their personalities.”

At last, even though Swift has been known to keep rather silent about her relationships, most recently, the “You Belong with Me” singer seems to have moved on with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, whom she started dating during the 2023 NFL season. Moreover, in a wide-ranging interview with WSJ. Magazine published on Nov. 20, 2023, the football player shared that life with Swift is a whole other kind of ballgame, and that he’s “never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them.” Kelce further emphasized that “I’ve never dealt with it.”

In the same interview, he said that spending time getting to know Swift has been eye-opening, admitting, “I’ve never been a man of words. Being around her, seeing how smart Taylor is, has been f—ing mind-blowing. I’m learning every day.”
