Swift is handling this relationship in front of the media differently than her previous ones.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship has been the primary focus of headlines for several months since the first sparks set their course. From going along with the rumors to singing about him on stage to confirming their relationship, Swift has come a long way.

She was honored with Time’s 2023 Person of the Year on Wednesday, and in the process, she chose to speak out about the public nature of their relationship and what she thought about it. She addresses her visits to high-level places, including her trips to Arrowhead Stadium to watch her man play, saying, “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care.” The 1989 album singer continues, “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone,” adding, “We’re just proud of each other.”

Having attended at least five Chiefs games in the last three months, the Midnights album singer has an opinion on the cameras that seem to be everywhere around her during the games. According to People, she states, “I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” adding, “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.” Here, she is referring to the family suites she typically sits in — sometimes with Kelce’s mom, Donna, and other times with fellow Chiefs player Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany.

She further admits that she is oblivious to the cameras since her only focus is Kelce. She says, “I’m just there to support Travis,” adding, “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.” She continued admitting that football, generally, is “awesome, it turns out,” adding, “I’ve been missing out my whole life.”

Two weeks before Taylor’s version of their relationship, Kelce spoke about it when he graced the cover of WSJ. Magazine’s December/January issue, where he admitted that he needed someone to grab her attention. He revealed at the time, “There were definitely people she knew that knew who I was, in her corner [who said]: ‘Yo! Did you know he was coming?’ I had somebody playing Cupid,” adding, “She told me exactly what was going on and how I got lucky enough to get her to reach out.”

He then went on to share the foundations of their compatibility, which was essentially rooted in family and work. He said, “Everybody knows I’m a family guy,” adding, “Her team is her family. Her family does a lot of stuff in terms of the tour, the marketing, being around, so I think she has a lot of those values as well, which is right up my alley.”
